Groovy. However, if you have a kindle fire tablet....you can tinker with the input button when trying to leave a comment and an option to have it open up into a new page will come up, - tap on that, and then as the new page opens...hit the comment area again and the keyboard will come up so you leave a comment if you like. - so kindles do allow this (at least the models I have). I don't know about other tablets.

i think it's fair and just fine - what do folks expect ? it's been 4-5 days, it's ok. the sooner folks put it in the back of their mind instead of the forefront, the rep will rise faster, seemingly.

if we post the same as we always have and we're still the same people it's gonna be great again.

You're just using the system the way the system is set up, I told you I knew that already. It's just that there's a two-system thing going on.

All I saw was a screen shot of his rep page.
And the screen shot he posted did not show how many points he got for each of his reps. All it shows is the title of the threads in which he was repped for a post. But it shows no content of the posts.
If he posted the content of posts or threads, I must have missed it.

Go to your rep page and see if it shows any content of a post in a thread. It doesn't. Nor does it show how many points you got for each of the reps you received.
So how exactly is that screenshot of LH proof of any sort of rep tampering?????

Tam, I know how my rep page works. I also know what threads I don't have access to that you do.

No one said anything about rep tampering. It's a system set in place by the site administrator - because he can.

I consider you a friend, I just don't see things the same as you on this. That's not enough for me to change how I see us as friends, and hopefully it doesn't for you.

I'm not accusing you of being underhanded, I'm saying the system isn't just. I don't know how to say it any clearer.


Now, if folks think my repping them is an unfair advantage, then I will just quit repping them.
Funny thing is, that some of those that think my repping them is an unfair advantage have not made a single effort to ask me to stop using "my unfair advantage" to rep them.
In their eyes, any rep I give anyone is an unfair advantage to them. So, anyone that has a rep from me already has a rep score that is unfair. Right?

You and I don't rep each other too often. Only occasionally, on things unrelated to politics or religion, which is why I'm glad there's the 'and the rest' forum where sometimes we can take a break from politics and religion to find some common ground. If you don't rep me after this, that'll be okay with me. I'll keep going along as I have been because I'm not angry, I'm just saying what I think. Anyway, I haven't been here that much in recent months and won't be here much in future, I go back to school on Monday. So between not having my politics or religion match up to the forum bias and not being here too much, my rep total will probably stay pretty low, and that's all right with me. That's not what I came here for.

Yes I know PJ, I was also joking. My point is what REP are we getting? False teachers are getting reps. If TOL actually wants to level the playing field, they should get rid of REPS and just put a like button which will show on the actual post. I am on another site that does that and I find it much more constructive and EVERYONE sees it.

How do you know that you were the only one repping her at the time? There is no way your rep took her up 57 points alone.

Anyone can see how much their rep increased someone else, when you rep them, look to the left under their avatar at their reps, there will be 2 numbers side by side - showing exactly what their rep was (the number on the right) and then what it became because of your rep (the number on the left) - once you post again or change pages - it goes back to one number.

No way on earth your rep power alone, changes by person you rep.

Who you rep has nothing to do with your rep point ability.

An inherent, human response to a thing that's unfair. Even when it doesn't really matter the principle will raise hackles. The more I think about it the less I care, but that's where I suspect the initial affront comes from. If you'd built a reputation over years and suddenly had the value of that, those years neutralized or diminished and then saw people rocket by you for, as LH so eloquently puts it, simply sharing more of the opinion of the host...I think your reaction might be a different one.

Maybe not, but it's something to consider before passing judgement.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to scrap the whole rep system.

Anyway, I say go the other way. Turn the cheek if it offends you. Let's all make a concerted effort to load the wagons of every Soot member we meet. Stack those reps until the shadow of them make it hard to read posts around here.

Now that would be a lovely thing, don't you think?

All that said and as my last word, a bit I wrote to someone a few moments ago, with amends...

The longer this goes on the funnier it gets...even funnier because for a few minutes I was actually irate about it...now I find myself thinking (and in part because of a kind word that surprised me) if anyone wants something I haven't paid that much attention to in ages and that won't add a dollar to my pocket or a day to my life to lose why, again, do I care?

Sometimes the funniest thing we can do is look in a mirror. No one has lost or gained anything of value and principle, if it doesn't attach to anything of value, is what, really? A way to get angry about nothing, to separate ourselves from the other, who is busy trying to separate himself from us.

So there...though I still think the giving idea is a good one. Anyone want or need more rep let me know and I promise to send it ASAP until I'm out for the day.

That's just sectarianism anyways, but it comes with the program here, since its openly biased in its theological perspective. That appears to be the prerogative of the 'powers that be' administrating the site,....so no surprise. Concepts of equity, justice for all, equal rights and priveleges....are more or less 'conditional' in such a system. I don't know how far we more liberal personalities can sway or change the tide here on how 'reps' are moderated.
