The New Rep System Is A Joke

Well okay then, how do you account for the massive discrepancies in rep power if this were actually a level playing field at least in regards to an honest representation of rep, considering that without some "influence" there's no possible way your score could be anywhere near that high?

Or is that just another aspect of TOL bias in play? In which case enjoy your rep.

If someone reps you and has 3000 the rep points you receive a higher amount of points than you get when someone has 300. It has always been that way.

Also that is far from the reps many once had and because they were so big, it was shunted to their receiving reps to have the full amount. Now it is working as it had in the past. Consider also, few have more than the single green bar, so no one has a high rep. :p:

I'm not disputing how the rep system works under regular usage. I know exactly how it operates. I'm saying that since the reset it's not regular for everyone and that folk can't possibly amass even a coupla thousand points of rep in a few days no matter how much it was spread about if the playing field was even. It isn't, and it's obvious. Where it comes to points I was about when a few million on the rep bar wouldn't necessarily be a 'high score' so that's all relative.

I think LH hit the nail on the head for once (albeit inadvertently) with his opinion as to the apparent purpose of rep scores - that the highest ones should reflect the prevailing opinions of site management and associated, as that's what's happening - instead of masquerading under the guise that this latest reset is done for an honest reflection of status in general.

It's now 3535 - over 1000 points in 24 hours. (That number might be changed by the time I post this :chuckle:)

Okay. Well, no one's denied there's another system in place, and I doubt anyone can explain how someone who's only posted a few times since the rep was reset already has over 1000 points, and only got them through the rep system available to the rest of us.

But hey, carry on with that truthsmacking. You're doing a great job of showing me what it looks like. :)

I wrote my above comment while quoting a post from RevTestament, but that post is now gone and there's no way to link to it, so here it is:

RevTestament, I'm sorry if my last line in it seemed directed at you, because it wasn't at all meant to be directed at you. I was referencing the number you'd posted only.

The truthsmacking comment was for any member of soots who pretends they're not using a different system to inflate soots member rep far beyond that of a regular member. They know their numbers are out of kilter by design (the system is intended to work how it's working), so they're kind of limited in how they can explain their numbers. And of course, the bigger the numbers get and the more time that goes by, the easier it will be to just say that higher numbers give/get higher rep and isn't that logical - until the oldtimers settle back in and forget how the soots mad powers came to be, and the newbies won't question it.

Oh, and less than 12 hours later, that 3535 is now 4666. :chuckle:

He still isn't, you're just confusing that rictus of yours with a grin and scaling down. And you can't beat someone who's gaming unless you match tactics.

And then what in the world do you think you're winning?

Or, more to the point, when you manufactured your moment in that thing you thought of as the sun, didn't you on some level have to realize it was only a tanning light?

I have roughly 250 points and my rep power varies from two to three points. Will you please quit playing dumb on this and just be honest enough to acknowledge that your rep score couldn't possibly have come about through a fair and even handed use of regular rep? Otherwise I'll quite gladly and bluntly state that you're either no good at maths or being deliberately underhanded.

You were the victim of exclusion bullying as a child, weren't you.

I'm well aware of the bias here but I had hoped that the rep reset didn't need to have "SOOTS" as a component. Naïve as I am I hoped it would have been an even playing field for regulars and newbs alike.
Conspiratorial AND envious. You are quite an emotionally eclectic mix.

For Rev Testament and others - 'SOOTS' stands for 'Secret Order Of The Smack' and is a behind the scenes club with plenty of rep perks at least.

They have brownies there, too. So I heard. :noid:

You're a member of soots, aren't you. :) Yep.

You don't have to be either to see what just happened around here and, meaningful or not, it's interesting how the only people really going after anyone who notices or painting a giant rainbow on it are (and this is likely a tremendous coincidence) soots members.

Come on must, ride it out. You guys won whatever this is before it started. Gracious in this case is likely just silence, don't you think? Let the powerless march in protest. It's not like it will make any difference. And anna is right, in a year or so all the new kids will be thinking, "Wow, they got that far that fast. How aren't they all in the Hall of Fame already?"

And now that I think about it, why aren't you? Why aren't soot members automatically enshrined? Or did that happen. I haven't checked in a while.

Think of it this way: you got here seven years after I did, you have around ten thousand fewer posts and you're a couple of hundred soots rep points up on me. Good on you. Relax. Enjoy the view. :)

....took me YEARS to get my first star :(
Edit: You'll always be a star to me, TL. :)

Hang on, TL, you know what they say, good things come to those who wait...unless you're an insider and then it's more like the old catsup bottle analogy after a few good whacks. :D

I kid because...you know, it's funny. My bet is that at some point nearly everyone will be in on it and we'll install a crank button at the bottom of each member's rep total where they can wager rep for the chance of more rep...maybe install rep-pal on popular threads where the authors can charge a small atta-boy, rep fee for perusal.

 The possibilities are endless.

Rep is meaningless to me. (Correction: meaningless until I attain Knight's new super secret one million rep level where my negrep of any user with less rep than I have results in their automatic escalated banning starting at one day, then a week, then a month, etc. THAT will be cool! "Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational NegRep!"

oops, I've said too much)

So, taking door B then...okay, I'm your daisy.
I'm also a member of Fight Club, the Tri-Lats and the He-Man Woman Hater's Club.
Sure, but none of those are inflating your rep, cool as they might be.

What are we talking about again?
Not much, but a whole lot of it.

Rep is meaningless to me.
Okay, but you're not acting that way. When you're a part of a group that's mostly getting absurdly hard to rationalize numbers (though yours are on the wane scale, comparatively) and you still feel obliged to kick at someone who's right about what's just happened, it feels like you care about something. Maybe the other members. Maybe you just don't like AB. :idunno: Whatever it is, I think it's a bad choice for the reasons given in my last.

Yeah, see, that's like a rich kid making jokes about inequity. It might be funny, but...

From your lips. :D

I'm not kicking anyone. What's really absurd in all this is that anyone takes ultimately meaningless reputation on a website full of strangers so seriously. But all that is beside the point of it being Knight's site to operate as he wishes. So who is your/their complaint really with?

I'll meet you halfway, though. Would it make you/them feel better if I deactivate my rep? I think I read that can be done.
