The New Rep System Is A Joke

Everyone had the same ability in terms of rep cap. Suddenly, exclusively, soots members were dramatically ahead of everyone else.

No matter how many times you look for new math you'll never explain that without a thumb on the scales by someone.


I once tracked activity and numbers around here when there was more participation than there is now. Now I am aware that more rep appears to be going out since the reset as people get excited about it. My averages were up and my averages have been fairly consistent over the course of my several years here. Those averages were sufficient to put me within the top tier of rep numbers here and to have seen me hit the ceiling and stop a long time back.

And yet, with high averages I was being warped by. Just not going to happen. Maybe here or there, but in every place I looked at soots it was happening and it wasn't happening anywhere else.

I have to note that since people have been talking about it a few people outside of soots have moved up (my own numbers have to some extent) but that's not surprising, is it.

Of course they have moved it, as peoples reps increase from people repping them, they will exponentially go up, now triple your rep score like your page flipped 3 times and then do that for each day since the reset, you would have more than i do right now.

Glory, I'm going to bet that your rep page would resemble a soots fest. Either in numbers or the work of a few whales.

And given how hard some on that side are scrambling to rebut it wasn't a surprise to me that someone from outside of soots would emerge with an equally inexplicable tally. Now what you won't find is that happening before a few of us who know better named the tune.

I hope the hospital bit is nothing serious.

I know who a lot of you are. Many of you are friends. I could probably list most of the active ones. When I first wrote about the disparity I began by setting out a list of you with names attached, but then decided not to do that, because it was needless, and went with a single initial and early rep scores. Without exception, the higher end by a wide margin were then active soot members.

I noted one member who at the time of noting had 0 posts since the rep reset, less time on the boards and thousands fewer posts, who at that time still managed to double my score and I'd been active and receiving more rep than usual.

With literally every soots member I could think of coming in significantly higher than my total and given I'd maxed rep out prior to the reset it didn't take a math major to understand what was happening.

My best guess is that one of two things was or is happening. Either soots members had a uniform or relative but substantial boost over other members in general or in relation to one another. But that one of those two things happened isn't a guess.

Town's right. The math just does not support it. It was obvious to plenty even within the first two days that something outside of the forum norm was going on when people's scores were already advancing so quickly and faster than everyone else's. A mighty coincidence that the majority happened to be in SOOTS.

Again, towns score would be higher than mine right now if his page flipped over more than 3 times a day for the last several days - and im not even counting the exponential increase from the increases that would be happening to all repping him.

Many of us are using all our reps each day and receiving loads of reps from people using all theirs each day, are you using all 60?

100 folks could rep me 10 times in less than 15 minutes. That's 1000 points in less than 15 minutes.
And THAT is assuming that each rep is only worth 1 point each.
As we have seen, after your rep reaches about 200, each rep is worth 2 points. So that would be 2000 points in less than 15 minutes.
And if their rep was worth 3 points each, that's 3000 points in less than 15 minutes.

I think it totally bizarre though that people are keeping score tabs on other peoples reps, thats just weird to me.

it seems to be giving me bits of rep over the course of hours instead of all 60 at once. as if it's a minute by minute 24 hour period or something else.

i think once we use 60 we SHOULD have to wait 24 hours from the 60th rep. then we get a full 60 at once. otherwise i feel like i'm not getting my full 60 each day. i do post over the course of 10-12 hours but still, if it was 24 hrs from the 60th it would make sense to me. no complaints unless i don't really get 60. am i spreading that much rep ? likely so but they go fast -

Well, okay, if 100 folks were repping you 10 times a day then in theory you could start amassing a humongous score. However, in reality that doesn't happen to anyone here or anything approaching so you win the theoretical maths point but nothing else. What makes rather more sense is that you're getting a number of rep points on the standard forum and a number in SOOTS, which makes sense. I presume you's rep each other in that club as well right?

That's because it will only let you give out a total of 60 WITHIN a 24 hour period.

1st Day
If you give out 30 at 7pm and then 30 more at 8pm. You have now used up your 60 reps per 24 hour period.

2nd Day
You have to wait till 7pm again. At that time you only have 30 more to give, because 8pm is not here yet. And the 30 you gave yesterday at 8pm are still WITHIN the 24 hour period. 30 yesterday at 8pm and the 30 you just gave out at 7pm. That's 60 WITHIN a 24 hour period.
8pm rolls around, and now the 30 from yesterdays 8pm have expired, and you can now rep 30 more times for today's 8pm.


Or, let me put it this way ....
You give out 1 rep at 7pm, and another at 7:05, and another at 7:10, and so on (giving a rep every 5 minutes till you have used 60).
Tomorrow, you have to wait for 7pm to be able to give 1 rep.
You give 1 rep and it says you have given all you can within a 24 hour period.

Because 7:05 ain't here yet. And until that 1 rep you gave yesterday at 7:05 expires, you can't give another. When 7:05 comes along, then you can give another - 1 rep. And you get the message again, because 7:10 ain't here yet.

Oh really? How can you say that? Especially since we just had a reset and folks are repping like crazy!

I presume you's rep each other in that club as well right?

I can rep in any club I am a member of.

Anna and I are both members of the Women's Club that you cannot see. We can rep each other in there, but you can't rep either of us in there.

So, the amount of clubs that one is in makes no difference. And I am still limited to only being able to give 60 reps TOTAL each day, no matter how many clubs I rep in.
But I can receive tons more than 60.

I do wish the user cp rep screen showed more than 25 because now I cannot see all the reps I get. Which means I do not see all the people's names who have repped me today. Most of the time I like to give back a rep to someone that has repped me. But I don't always know who all has repped me cause the screen only shows the last 25.
