The New Rep System Is A Joke

Tell me what would happen if say 10 regular people were repping you 5-10 times a day along with multiple other reps you are getting, your page rolls over so fast you didn't even get a chance to read them all or even see them all, what do you think that would amount to, and also consider that your rep power is boosted with each rep received and so on?

It would grow real fast and exponentially. Now figure it out if more than 10 regular people were doing it daily.

It would certainly grow of course, how fast would depend on the regularity of that as well as the actual power rate set. I don't think anyone is disputing that, certainly not me. It doesn't negate the fact that with the regular settings as they are it would be a mathematical impossibility for your score to have amassed to anywhere near such a level in such a short space of time even if that were happening.

Christians, and like minded, so it stands to reason they would be repping each others posts more often, especially when they believe the same.

Even if that were the case (which is rather questionable as I don't see why Conservative Christian's would necessarily rep more often than moderate ones or people of other ideologies), it doesn't do away the mathematical impossibility.

Still nothing like the score you have now. Even factoring that in you'd have nothing approaching given the short space of time since the reset and rep power as it's set currently.

I'm asking how you know that without a list of who all the members of said group are?
You have said you don't have such a list, but can tell by the large rep numbers.
What do you think the chances are that all with lower numbers are not in that group, and all those with higher numbers are in said group?
What if your "number" reasoning isn't really a true reflection of who is or is not in said group?

I can see this thread has drawn some interest. When I saw my rep, I figured it was up because I have pm'd so many friends asking if they could pray for me with my recent medical concerns and my mother dying in the hospital. They are supporting me and when I see their reps it makes me feel loved. That said, I know for a fact I am in no secret group. I know I mainly rep people in the religious forums and rarely even read posts anywhere else, so I give rep to those who agree with me. :chuckle:

Yes, you'd be absolutely nowhere near that total and not only you either. You'd have a higher score than those who don't receive that much rep per day granted, but nothing like the amount you're at currently. The current rep value rate simply isn't high enough, in fact it's nowhere near the rate it would need to be in order for that to be possible. This isn't like the days where a single rep was worth hundreds to thousands of points...

I know who a lot of you are. Many of you are friends. I could probably list most of the active ones. When I first wrote about the disparity I began by setting out a list of you with names attached, but then decided not to do that, because it was needless, and went with a single initial and early rep scores. Without exception, the higher end by a wide margin were then active soot members.

I noted one member who at the time of noting had 0 posts since the rep reset, less time on the boards and thousands fewer posts, who at that time still managed to double my score and I'd been active and receiving more rep than usual.

With literally every soots member I could think of coming in significantly higher than my total and given I'd maxed rep out prior to the reset it didn't take a math major to understand what was happening.

My best guess is that one of two things was or is happening. Either soots members had a uniform or relative but substantial boost over other members in general or in relation to one another. But that one of those two things happened isn't a guess.

You do realize that while I can only GIVE 60 reps in a day, there is no limit as to how many reps I can RECEIVE in a day.

Since neither you nor I have any clue as to how many reps I receive each day, your point is moot.

There is no limit to the amount of reps you can RECEIVE each day, only the amount you can GIVE each day.

I can only rep 60 people a day. But I can receive way more than 60 people repping me each day.

There is your disconnect, even though i can only send out 60, i receive way more than that a day, think about it, a page flipping over 3 times, is more than 75.

There is no limit on how many you can get in a day, only on how many you can send out.

And the more we talk about it the more people think about repping. I've gone through phases where I didn't rep at all....just plain forgot, even when I like a post. Sometimes I'm thinking more about responding than repping. Go figure.

Everyone had the same ability in terms of rep cap. Suddenly, exclusively, soots members were dramatically ahead of everyone else.

No matter how many times you look for new math you'll never explain that without a thumb on the scales by someone.


I once tracked activity and numbers around here when there was more participation than there is now. Now I am aware that more rep appears to be going out since the reset as people get excited about it. My averages were up and my averages have been fairly consistent over the course of my several years here. Those averages were sufficient to put me within the top tier of rep numbers here and to have seen me hit the ceiling and stop a long time back.

And yet, with high averages I was being warped by. Just not going to happen. Maybe here or there, but in every place I looked at soots it was happening and it wasn't happening anywhere else.

I have to note that since people have been talking about it a few people outside of soots have moved up (my own numbers have to some extent) but that's not surprising, is it.
