It's the rep system used by the group.

There is only one rep system. We all get 60 to hand out in a 24 hour period. We all have to rep 3 people before we can rep someone again, which means if I rep Angel I have to rep three other people before I am allowed to rep her again.

The same stands for you and everyone else on TOL.

I'd respect a lot more a system where access to rep was the same across the board, regardless of affiliation or ideology.

It is. And you claiming it is not doesn't change that.

Those who have more friends and ideological allies will end up with more rep as a natural outcome of those factors, and I think that's fine, but at least they got there using the same path as everyone else.

That is exactly the way it works, for all of us.

The way it is now, I don't respect the system. That's just the way it is.

If you'll remember, it wasn't that long ago that I told you we didn't have too many opportunities to exchange rep because there was so little we agreed on ideologically. The times we've exchanged multiple reps have been over something like skybringr and the upskirt thread or similar, one of the times we did find common ground. As for rep then vs. rep now, see my answer to Tam on the same question.

You're trying to compare soots rep to non-soots rep capability and all anyone has to do is compare soots members to non-soots members to see that your trying to hold the two up as somehow comparable just doesn't work. Lighthouse has all but crumbled the foundation of that argument for all of you.

For the record, I never participated in them (or at least not deliberately) because I want rep to reflect if my posts are of good quality. Also because at the time I wanted to increase my rep/post ratio and getting a few points each on a lot of posts put that down, not up. From the time I first considered the matter, my rep ratio went up from about 3.5 to 17. I needed this discipline because it has made me a better poster.
But it matters not to me that some people will want to get rep for other reasons or by other methods, nor would I say that they are using any underhand methods to do so. That is entirely their free choice. I only wish that people would recognise that if too many people give too much rep for too many posts, then rep no longer tells you anything of any value. And indeed it is already too late because the rep system has been distorted and there is no way that it reflects true reputation.

Now Chrys, if you want to go on record as long as youve been here, to say you have never seen a thread in "and the rest" that had the express purpose to rep the person above you, then its actually YOUR credibility at stake, weve all seen them.

The rep capability is the same, we all get 60 and can rep the same person again in the same amount of time.

I often multiple rep people in a day, i use my reps all the time.
