Trey Gowdy: Do You Want the Memo to Come Out?

Simple answer: no. There is no reason to believe that the contents of the memo would be true, there is good reason to believe that it will be full of lies, and it risks compromising the FBI investigation. The memo is through-and-through a part of Devon Nunes' campaign to obstruct justice. It's a bit of theatre put on by Russian bots in coordination with Republicans.

So you want it released right? So we can all laugh at it?

Or, more likely, it will be used to spin countless new conspiracy theories on cable news to try to manufacture the sense that it's all just partisan gamesmanship, meanwhile discrediting the FBI and non-partisan administration of justice.

Are you talking about Hillary here?

To clarify where I'm coming from here, I consider the effort to release the memo, and the efforts to discredit the FBI and the Justice Department and bring them under direct political control of the administration, a part of the ongoing Russian invasion of the American political system with their allies in the Trump administration and the Ryan House of Representatives. The short-term survival of democracy in the United States depends on the outcome of that battle.

The Republicans wrote this memo themselves, having told the Justice Department that they wouldn't disclose it publicly in order to get access to the materials. Democrats have had no part of it, and they have been forbidden from releasing a document of their own. The FBI and Justice Department will be unable to respond to it, because it is derived from classified information, so they are going to have to sit and take the slander against them from some of the most powerful officials in the country. This is Republicans giving themselves a free shot on the goal. It may or may not work, but it poses a very large threat to our system of government.

Or more likely, it will show proof of some FBI agents changing and refiling their 302's with their interviews of Hilary Clinton....and the coverup thereof.

Oh really? We've had a slow-motion Saturday-night massacre. Trump has fired:

- James Comey - FBI Director
- The US Attorneys
- Sally Yates - Acting Attorney General
- Andrew McCabe - FBI Deputy Director
- Robert Mueller - Special Counsel, although he had to take it back.

He has allegedly threatened to fire:
- Jeff Sessions - his own appointed Attorney General
- Rod Rosenstein - his own appointed deputy AG, who oversees the Russia investigation.
- Christopher Wray - his own appointed FBI director.

Donald Trump is desperately trying to stop this investigation because he knows that it will ultimately implicate him.

The only plausible explanation is that he has an awareness of his own guilt, and he's using every power he has to try to prevent that being revealed, and the difference between this situation and Watergate is that his party is supporting him corrupt efforts.

It can't show such proof, because the underlying documents and evidence aren't part of the release, as far as I understand it. It is a dossier of Devon Nunes' authorship.

Remember the Yabut Rule: Distractions legally don't need evidence. They can be entirely content-free,as this one appears to be.

Apparently, this is going to relate to the application to the FISA court for a warrant to surveil Carter Paige. And it may be used as a pretext for an assault on Rod Rosenstein, who is, again, Trump's own choice to be deputy AG, but who is also responsible for Robert Mueller being special counsel. Which makes him a target for Trump.

Why do you continue to deny that the FBI's own investigator said that there is no there there?

Why do you keep misrepresenting it? He said that before joining the investigation, and he was speculating about what they would find. And he was wrong, as you would know if you looked at a court docket.
