The New Rep System Is A Joke

I was wondering what had happened to my rep!

:noid:
Maybe a dingo ate it. :chew:

As to the ongoing about rep, like I said, if you rep me I hope it's because you liked the post for whatever reason. If you're able I hope you put a word or two in it, because that's what matters to me.

One question though. A few people have said that we have the option of controlling if that rep number appears in public. I didn't know that and think it's an excellent way for people who like the use of the system and rep comments but don't care for the whole rep as symbol of anything else crowd to find a happy resting place.

So how do you do that, exactly? And don't say, as one well intended soul recently did, that it's an option in your User CP. What particular option is it and how is it altered?

Because, honestly, I'd like to turn my public display of the number off and be done with that consideration, keep repping and exchanging encouragements, but end my active participation in the numbers race or whatever that amounts to for people.

So how, literally, particularly, do you do that?

If you turn off your rep, you can't see the comments and your reputation shows as a black box. But your rep power can still be seen, so in that it seems kind of pointless. You lose your ability to see rep comments, and everyone can still see how much power you have.

Oh, well that's useless...shoot.

That's my proposal then. Why doesn't the site allow people to hide the reputation number. That way those of us who value the message/support but disdain the number could happily putter along beside those who find the digits meaningful or just fun, whatever?

Wouldn't that be a solution for everyone?

One pos rep was from you. That's it.
Anna, I have repped you more than once since the reset.

You do realize that I have no control whatsoever how the system tallies the scores, right?
I only click a rep button, just as I always have. Nothing has changed in regards to how I pass out rep. Nothing.

So I'll be blunt.
It seems as though you are ostracizing me over something that I have absolutely no control over.

I wrote my above comment while quoting a post from RevTestament, but that post is now gone and there's no way to link to it, so here it is:

RevTestament, I'm sorry if my last line in it seemed directed at you, because it wasn't at all meant to be directed at you. I was referencing the number you'd posted only.

The truthsmacking comment was for any member of soots who pretends they're not using a different system to inflate soots member rep far beyond that of a regular member. They know their numbers are out of kilter by design (the system is intended to work how it's working), so they're kind of limited in how they can explain their numbers. And of course, the bigger the numbers get and the more time that goes by, the easier it will be to just say that higher numbers give/get higher rep and isn't that logical - until the oldtimers settle back in and forget how the soots mad powers came to be, and the newbies won't question it.

Oh, and less than 12 hours later, that 3535 is now 4666. :chuckle:
There is no other system. We simply rep each other and our rep power grows. The higher our rep power the more points we give to those we pos rep. And the more points we take away from those we neg. However, I pos repped someone in this thread and they received 60 points. I negged someone else and they lost 2.

Let's reset everyone back to zero.
Eliminate poss rep completely, and only be able to give neg reps.
Let's see who gets the most red in the shortest period of time.
:chuckle:

And you aren't embarrassed by that? … That there's a clique of TOL favorites rigging the system and then sitting around furiously 'repping' each other so they can appear to be so much more popular than everyone else?

Man! That's really kind of … pathetic. :freak:
We are more popular.

No, Tam, I don't believe you have. Unlike your page, my CP doesn't cycle over multiple times in a day. My page shows anywhere from several to as much as nine days worth of rep on it at a time because I don't get that much rep. It shows three days' worth on it right now, and there's one from you.

I'm not ostracizing you, you're just the only one that's really talking about it, and you have to realize that. I'm not making this personal to you, I've tried to focus on the system itself.

I posted also to Knight, but I doubt I'll get a response. (My first post to him about it in the other thread got deleted.)

As for not having control over it... that's not really true. If you thought the system was unjust as it's set up (and you know it's set up differently for your group), you could opt out of it.

Oh, and I just got another neg from Lighthouse:
Stop whining. -:Brandon:
:chuckle: Lighthouse, I'll say whatever I want, whether you like it or not. So stop whining.

The new rep system is a joke? In all fairness, hasn't it always been kind of a joke? That almost seems like...kind of the point of the rep system. :noid:

wow, somebody is bitter - i was good at spellings, but never good at false accusations -

Tam, i know you're actually overhanded -
?

The British say "maths" because there's more than one. Arithmetic, geometry, etc. are distinct mathematical sciences. That's why it's called "mathematics." Plural noun.

The rep system should let newbies know who aligns with the standards and beliefs of the site management and who does not.

That's just silly. If I hang out at a social club, and 10 people don't like me, whereas 90 people think I am great, then I have a really good reputation. Even if the club owners don't like me, but literally everyone else does, my reputation is amazing. :p
