Not to mention..

Submission to Governing Authorities

1Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

We change things by the vote in this country, not by civil disobedience.... and we have laid down on the job and the Supreme Court is what it is because we keep electing idiots.

yes but not our supreme courts interpretation of it
so
what is your point here?
and
you never answered the question

are you okay with your name on the license for same sex marriage?

If that were my job I'd have to answer that question.

her name is on the license

do you get it now?

No. What does that mean? Does God think she approves because her name is there?

are you okay with same sex marriage?

no answer
so
we can assume he is okay with same sex marriage
but
doesn't have the guts to admit it

you have no idea what it is like to have your name on a record that legitimizes something that you abhor
if
you are okay with same sex marriage
so
your opinion regarding the actions of this clerk are not only meaningless
they are misleading
and
it is what I call arguing around the edges
which is a waste of time for me
I am not interested in arguing with you
if
you are okay with either abortion or same sex marriage
what's the point?

With the clerk who had refused them in jail, William Smith Jr. and James Yates on Friday morning became the first same-sex couple to receive a marriage license in Rowan County, Kentucky.

In what was their sixth attempt this summer, Smith and Yates pressed through a throng of reporters and picked up the marriage license they'd been seeking since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in June.

"Man shall not lie with man as with woman. It is an abomination before the Lord...."

The same set of laws also requires the people to stone people who worship differently. It is also quite OK with certain forms of slavery, including the sacking of cities and taking the people there as slaves. Which is exactly what we see groups like IS doing today, and rightly oppose it as absolutely barbaric and unjust.

Approaching such laws today without a critical mindset is quite dangerous, and very selective when it comes to homosexuality.

It simply is impossible to adhere to such laws with good conscience today. And given what we know about the development and evolution of the scriptures as well as conceptions of God and what he requires, one cannot simply check reason in at the door and blindly accept them. I do believe that a reasonable analysis of homosexuality in and of itself reveals nothing that is damaging to anyone. If a homosexual couple wants to marry and stay true, it seems impossible to actually come up with any good reason to oppose it.

The judge should be impeached for interfering with the free exercise of religion and trying to compel a person to violate her religious beliefs.
He didn't interfere with her exercise of religion. He penalized her for interfering with a lawful order she was sworn to uphold.

I don't think oath violation is particularly Christian and if she could no longer in good conscience advance her office she was free to resign and should have. She's entitled to her beliefs. She isn't entitled to enforce them against others absent an operation of law and standard justifying it.

Nope. She refused to do the job she was elected to and being paid to do, and wouldn't let her deputy clerks do it either.

She denied citizens their civil rights and unlawfully imposed her religious values on those who don't share them.

Leviticus 20
9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

To put this verse in context, Leviticus 20 lists a number offenses that were punishable by death including children cursing their parents.

Instead of "cherrypicking" just one isolated verse, does "bybee" also advocate that anyone who curses their parents should be sentenced to death?

Handing someone a marriage licence doesn't make them married - there must be a church and/or state ceremony to make it legal.
