Now if God never intended Eternal Life by means of keeping the Law, why did Jesus respond to the question of the young man here in this manner Matt 19:15-22
Well what Jesus was showing this young man is that no one can do that which is required to inherit Eternal Life.
Yes, if he could have done it, he would have a right to enter in Eternal Life based upon his own doings.
But God never intended Eternal Life based upon man keeping the Law, it was always based upon a promise of Grace, this was Established before the World Began Titus 1:1-2

In fact the Promise was given before any law was given to Adam in the garden, because the promise is from before the World began Titus 1:2
2 In hope of eternal life and or Inheritance, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
Now if these things be True, how do we see verses like this Rom 2:7,10-13
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
The reason is this, its because of Christ, The Eternal Inheritance was to be gained not by man keeping the Law, but God Man in Christ. It was premised on His Law Keeping both in Righteous Living and enduring the Penalty of sinners that through Him all the Promises of Eternal Inheritance was to be gained. As the Covenant Head of the People He was to Isa 42:21
21 The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.

Many false teachers in this day do deny the federal headship of Adam in the beginning and so teach contrary to what has been revealed by scripture.
The scripture by the inspired Apostle Paul teaches Adam's federal headship over all men in him in the beginning, so much so that in the Divine Reckoning of things when Adam sinned, likewise did all for whom he federally represented sinned. Now lets prove this by reading the following Rom 5:12,15,16,17,18,19
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
These scriptures makes Adam's federal headship so crystal clear, that only depraved and darkened minds would dare oppose them, for their minds have been blinded by the god of this world so they cannot receive the Love of the Truth. For the all wise God set it up that in the beginning Adam acted in behalf of all persons that would generate from Him, who of course were the sons of God in their natural states Lk 3:38

Remember it was through Seth, the replaced seed of Eve, Abel that men began to call upon the Name of the Lord, which would be the Elect Sons of God Gen 4:25-26
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.

Those false teachers and those who follow them who teach that before one can be Justified before God, that they must first act faith or believe or repent or some other Gospel dutie of obedience, what they are being guilty of before God, they are guilty of depriving Christ's precious blood of it's infinite Justifying merit before God, they teach that not until mans faith or act of obedience of some type, Christ's blood in Justifying one before God counts as nothing ! It in and of itself for them did not Justify them before God's Law and Justice, but it must wait for the creatures motion or performance before it can have its rightful Glory. This is just as bad as trampling under foot the blood of Christ, for they are saying in essence that Hs Blood alone is not sufficient enough for God to justify sinners that it was shed for Matt 26:28

False religion teaches that anyone can be saved by a simple act of believing on Christ in their uncircumcised heart and become born again; that Christ died for all of mankind. Yet, they are under God's Wrath because they were never His Sheep:

Many in false religion have hijacked this verse and passage to mean and teach that the unregenerate man or woman in the flesh, can somehow with a spiritually wicked heart , a darkened understanding, can believeth unto Righteousness;
But the heart here means also the mind by which we think, feel, will, understand, its the whole soul and inner man, which man in the flesh, unregenerate cannot please God with any of that Rom 8:7-8

8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
And since the believing with the Heart is an act of Faith which pleases God Heb 11:6, and those in the flesh cannot please God Rom 8:8, then those in Rom 10:9-10 that believeth unto Righteousness cannot possibly be those in the flesh, unregenerate, its not even possible !

TY for the info, I was unaware of that, but am not surprised.
Another "step" I understand that some of these may adhere to is infant baptism, which is another work of the flesh.
If a person thinks their own work of faith Justified them before God, then according to God's Word, they aren't Justified at all! (Gal. 2:16)
Very true. Faith is a revealing of the work Christ has done for all those He died for; His Righteousness is imputed to them. And they are given (a gift) a profound trust in His work on their behalf. This faith is a gift and fruit of the Holy Spirit one can only receive in the New Birth, not before. (Gal. 5:22; Eph. 2:8)

Because in Christ their Head, they have fulfilled the Law of God , they have kept all of its most Holy Precepts, and in Him they have all been Eternally Punished already for all their trespasses, be it past, present and future, and forgiven of them all Col 2:13
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
They were raised up together with Christ from the dead, after He had been delivered for their offences, and that raising up was because of their Justification from all their sins Rom 4:25 !
And those sins are never laid to their charge 2 Cor 5:19
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
God forgave them all because in Christ their Head they were all punished. Even if one for whom He died does not come to faith [because unbelief is the penalty of sin and death] and they remain in unbelief and die in their sins, then God is Unjust, because again, unbelief is nothing but part of the Spiritual consequences of sin and death, but once the consequences of sin and death hath for that sinner been settled by the death and blood of Christ, God MUST give them Faith to believe because His Righteousness and Justice is at stake, so all for whom Christ died do obtain Faith through the Righteousness of God 2 Pet 1:1
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
That word righteousness in the greek is dikaiosuné and means:

One Translation reads:
From Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ.
To those who received a faith equal to ours through the justice of our God and savior Jesus Christ. CEB
God doing what is Just and Right because of Christ their Savior satisfying for them all His Law and Justice, So giving them Faith in Him, to believe on Him because of what He hath done for them is Just Rom 3:26
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
In other words, those who come to Faith in Jesus is a testimony to God's Righteousness and Justness in Justifying them for the sake of Jesus !
