Religion is slowly, ever so slowly becoming obsolete in the UK, thank Man. The number of Church of England baptisms here is going down year by year. From 151,400 in 2002 to 144,300 in 2003. The number in 2001 was 153,300. I for one, am happy that we are becoming more and more secular.

Granite--the catholic church in italy is also home base of the Jesuites and the Black Pope. Have you cared enough about accuracy in your judgements to even check out the website about "Vatican Asassins"?
The fault in your argument is that you are--deliberately I believe-- condemning reaL christians by identifying them with many who have in the past associated themselves with christendom as a means of achieving ungodly ends. The Black Pope and the Jesuits are a large element and factor with which you seemingly want to link real christians and condemn them together. Stalin was a Jesuit, and your desire, I believe, is to condemn all christians together with him when, in reality, Stalin's attitude toward people of faith was very much like yours. Your attitude is very much like the attitude of both Hitler and Stalin. Accordingly, you have very noiticeably ignored murder in the name of secular, atrheistic socialism while daring to attempt to go back centuries to place some blame on the church.

Jefferson, Paine, Voltaire, and other skeptics have all attacked the fables of Christianity too, genius. Hitler praised the church and cowed it into submission--Stalin did the same thing. Comparing me to the man who murdered some of my ancestors is offensive in the extreme.
Rolf, here's what you don't get: I'm not opposed to people going to church, practicing Christianity, whatever. If it works for you, fine; knock yourself out. The last thing I want is to see people rounded up and killed for their faith. I don't think you see the difference between critiquing Christianity and wanting Christians dead. It's hyperbole, it's a ridiculous stretch, and you know it. Grow up.
Rolf: I have researched the so-called Black Pope and what have you. I don't find the theory very convincing. Remember, people have the right to disagree with you and your conclusions. Just an FYI.

Stalin was never a Jesuit (i.e., a member of the Roman Catholic Society of Jesus). He studied at the Georgian Orthodox (an entirely different religion) seminary in what is now Tblisi, the capital of the Georgian republic, but was expelled at the age of 19. There is a lot of spurious anti-Catholic conspiracy theory out there on the internet. Since pretty much everything I have posted here on tautology-on-line so far has been distorted, I will add that I am not Catholic, but I don't like to see them maligned or misrepresented.

I am with you on this Cleo. I used to be a catholic and resent the anti-catholic comments regularly posted on this site. A bit KKKish sometimes. But then the KKK is a christian organisation, isn't it?

He didn't kill millions of Catholic Poles. The lion's share of murdered Poles happened to be Jewish (no surprise).
I didn't say the church was in league with Hitler, that I recall. Some supported the Reich, some didn't. It was certainly in their interest to toe the line...again, no surprise.
