Regardless whether you think they are near or distant future, these things are often layered and simultaneous. Mt 24 is written like Mt 10. The things do not happen "later" or in sequence with the one before; they are all happening at once.

The most fundamental mistake of pop eschatology, completely apart from whether it is supposed to be looking at the distant (from Christ) future, is this obsession with chronology. Even the Rev starts over half way through. That's because it is fundamentally mistaken about what kind of declarations are being made. It is not prognostication material; it is a prophet telling you what kind of sin you are in and what will happen if you stay in it.
