Meh. Maybe back then when a person was either a Christian or a straight up pagan.
In today's world, that's not really an expectation so long as you nonetheless lead your family to what God desires.

It is a must for a believer to marry a believer. If you are not marrying a fellow Jew or as a Christian a fellow Christian, then you have chosen a wrong path. Remember about being content to live with an unbeliever? This is if you become a believer and your spouse is still an unbeliever.

1 Corinthians 7:10-16 NKJV - 10 Now to the married I command, [yet] not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from [her] husband. 11 But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to [her] husband. And a husband is not to divorce [his] wife. 12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 15 But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such [cases]. But God has called us to peace. 16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save [your] husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save [your] wife?

This is why marriage or the gospel comes first in an individual's life. Meaning, you may present the gospel to someone before talking with them about marriage and who they might marry or who they want to marry. Some people marry others.

have yet to see a better balance struck between the wrongness of homosexual activity and the need to not discriminate, then that found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

Chastity and homosexuality

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

The need to not discriminate against non-Catholics is manifested in one of Bishop Polycarp's epistles, written all the way back in the early 100s. It is not a new idea, and is apparently Apostolic, meaning that the Apostles taught this too.
