Four times a total that is a bit inflated itself now? Sure, seems apt.
Rep as a measure of popularity
That's just not true, Tam. Like I said,
I broke the rep machine and did it without any cadre pumping my numbers, without being a part of any effort to manipulate the number. I simply made a lot of posts that people, left and right, Christian and heathen, found amusing or interesting or liked for whatever reason.
In those days I found that gratifying and because there was always an attempt to manipulate the system going on (mostly involving lengthening or shortening rep cycles) I kept a record for a few years to keep from running into a "can't rep yet" notice. The record had two columns. The first was who gave me rep and the second was a list of people I gave rep to.
I remember when a mod was suspicious early on because I was catching and passing people pretty quickly (as in a year or two after I'd been here) and I invited him to take a look at who was repping me (I think he wondered if my rise was owed to a cadre, there being one or two, but I knew it wasn't because I'd already said no to that sort of thing) and what he found was a mix from Knight to red77.
And for years that's the way it stayed. Sadly, a lot of my right wing friends fell by the wayside and I don't see them around much or at all. MaryContrary, chickenman, etc. I'm probably not nearly as popular as I once was, but you get a sense of things over the years. My reps received has been fairly constant, even if the harder right and left remaining are a little more inclined to keep coloring within their own borders these days.
Really. I don't think he's liked at all outside the hard right. I never read much being said about him that's positive, so I'm guessing his CP page would look like another soots fest, for the most part. Certainly I never had any difficulty in catching and passing him without the manipulation and he'd been here years longer. Now look at him. It's a TOL miracle.
