I'm thinking of it a little differently...it's more a reminder that TOL is a caste system of sorts. There are those who are for one reason or another, beginning with strong, narrowed ideological alignment, allowed to be full members with full privileges and certain perks, like exaggerated rep or secret meeting places within the walls, like an old castle
D).Then there are the rest of us, whose participation is, to one extent or another, an appreciated necessity for the continuance of that groups' existence and the continuance of the site, there never being enough of a created elite to be self sustaining.
When you think of it that way it's funny. Like a secret order that keeps throwing a parade down main street and no one wears a mask.:cheers:

I think she thought you were flaunting an ill gotten gain and that doing so repeatedly was in poor taste, but I don't think she meant it as a condemnation of your character, only the particular habit.
My perspective is a bit different. I don't think most of you would do it again had you it to do over and I think different ones of you are exercising the impact of it in different ways....

Well, you did that when you gamed the system. Now you seem to be determined to make it everyone else's problem.
But it really isn't. Whenever anyone says anything isn't a big deal my inclination is to respond, "Fine. Do without it."
They rarely try though.
Here's the problem I have with someone in your position making the claim. It's a bit like someone robbing a bank, riding around in a car bought with the proceeds honking the horn and shouting, "It's nothing--stop being silly," to the posse.

How do you game the system, when they are your reps to hand out as you please and you dont rep yourself?
I use mine for fun, for encouragement, for acknowledgement, to comment, to leave a message, and sometimes yes, to neg someone.

So why did you fly off the handle when it was obvious that you and everyone in SOOTS had reps going through the roof?

Not like it would change a great deal on that score, certainly not at any disadvantage to you and SOOTS members at any rate.

Please don't play coy. SOOTS and the advantages of being in it mean you can rep each other behind the scenes and it far outstrips the regular rep that posters have to dispense on the actual public forum. You seriously telling me that you don't utilize the fringe benefits that come with being in that private club? At all? Since the reset?
Are you going to tell me that when i rep someone and i have a high rep count, they reap no benefit?

I set that out early on. You do it by having weighted rep or by getting a group together to rep within the group in an orchestrated fashion, inflating the number.
Which is how a good friend doubled my rep on a day without having posted for weeks.
Some neg rep, some don't. Some rep out of a friendly disposition and others on a particular post and point. Most are probably a little of all of that.
I agree the best use of it is to encourage people. But that's a separate issue.

That's not what the objection is to though. Sure. I've even rep'd people who differed with me for differing well, rep'd people I don't like for a solid contribution to a thread. And I've rep'd people out of affectionate regard. All of that was in the moment, unscheduled and unorchestrated, or as I would put it, organic.
I still rep some soots friends, as you know. As Tam knows, and steko, bybee, Kat, etc.
I suppose what bugs me is that when I got to the top of the heap a long time ago it was with a patchwork of appreciation from people left and right, Christian and heathen. It meant something to me, sentimentally. I was invited to rep alliances and schemes and always declined them. Seeing someone turn that into a running joke was disappointing. Worse, because I like a number of the people who did that to it.
Ah, well. It's not like anyone died. And maybe reducing it to a farce is just what it needed, but like I said to someone...maybe Steko, a place needs something that feels organic, that can be fairly won. If it seems like anything worth having is reserved then you might as well be Farmville.
I wish we could somehow see how many reps we have left or the timetable for the reps we give. i never know when i have acouple more to give, like i said b4, it says too much given wait 24 hours about 12 times a day. then at times i can give a few then it stops me again - annoying, but that's the deal. it would be too much programming to do that for every User CP -

No, but not as much as you reap while receiving it in SOOTS, along with everyone else in that club. What exactly is that rep supposed to mean on any sort of meaningful scale?
What part of we have conversations/discussions there, just like out here, did you miss? We get 60 reps just like you, we are limited to 5 posts before we can rep someone again just like you, and i maybe unlike you, use all mine.
Are you under the false assumption that all that is there is a rep thread? Theres rep threads right out here too. You can go back to any thread since the reset and rep any post you want, just the same and people can rep yours.

Where had I implied that all you actually do in SOOTS is take advantage of the bolstered rep system it affords members? In context of this thread that's the more pertinent part for sure but I've no doubt you have threads for discussion as well. Be a bloody boring club if all you had were rep rampage threads and the like...
Yeah because of course we are all so shallow that we never rep someone to pray for them there, or to agree, or to encourage them there, or do all the same exact things people do with their reps out here...
Ill tell knight to increase your reps to what mine are now and take mine back to exactly what it was the second of the rest, will you feel better then?
