So what is a child of God if he is NOT learning to be a son of God? Of what value is he to God by remaining a child?

Yer making my point. You don't know anything as in not knowing why God has redeemed you.
Learning means that by obedience do we become sons of God.
Now, getting back to the issue of Grace: By you doing NOTHING to merit it unto sonship, why should God continue giving you grace to do more of it?
