The troubled teen authorities say killed 17 people at a Florida high school excelled in an air-rifle marksmanship program supported by a grant from the National Rifle Association Foundation, part of a multimillion-dollar effort by the gun group to support youth shooting clubs and other programs.

Nikolas Cruz, 19, was wearing a maroon shirt with the logo from the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School when he was arrested Wednesday shortly after the shooting. Former JROTC cadets told The Associated Press that Cruz was a member of the small varsity marksmanship team that trained together after class and traveled to other area schools to compete.

This is such a tragedy ... one of which Trump and the GOP are partially responsible. No reasonable, decent person or party would ever work to specifically give the mentally ill access to dangerous weapons. The only logical conclusion: greed and apathy.

The regulation, finalized in December under Obama's tenure, required the Social Security Administration to disclose information quarterly to the national gun background check system about certain people with mental illness.
While the list of eligible mental disorders is long -- ranging from anxiety to eating disorders to schizophrenia -- those who would have been reported by the agency had to meet two main criteria: a) They were receiving full disability benefits because of a mental illness and couldn't work and b) they were unable to manage their own benefits, thus needing the help of a third party to do so.
It's also not clear -- and perhaps unlikely -- that the man accused of terrorizing the high school in Parkland and killing 17 people there would have met either of the criteria laid out to be reported under that rule.
What's more, the rule Trump rescinded was opposed by both the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Rifle Association, so it wasn't exactly universally hailed.

So let's see: The NRA gives grants to teach kids gun safety, safe gun practices and the correct way to use a gun. That's a great thing. So far so good.

His defense attorneys believe he has depression and is autistic
One relative said he was at one time prescribed medication for his 'emotional difficulties'
A local official said Cruz received mental health treatment at one point but stopped getting that treatment more than a year ago

It's true. And you know it wasn't about people with eating disorders. The NRA sponsored a program that taught a kid who expressed interest in shooting up a school, how to shoot accurately. Those are just facts, and eating disorders have nothing to do with it.
