You are utterly naive if you think you have some sort of defence initiative that could destroy all ICBM's before they reach the US. Reagan started the 'star wars' program in the 80s but it was never completed and it wouldn't have worked anyway. If a full scale nuclear attack is launched at America then you can kiss goodbye to the stars and stripes. Educate yourself in the fact that not all nukes are the same size with the same strength.
And the added fact that one does not always need to use a nuke, but other types of bombs are just as effective for smaller target areas.

Well of course they aren't!! :doh: If you think ones used in full scale nuclear war are just going to give people sunburn or something then you are insane...Why do you think films like "The Day After" & the more scientifically accurate "Threads" came out in the 80s? At the height of the arms race war seemed a very real possibility and the sheer horror of nuclear conflict was represented in these. Nobody wins. The absolute insanity and long term effects of a nuclear attack are devastating beyond words. Not just the blast but the fallout, pollution, disease, starvation, society sent back to practically medieval levels etc. If you think you could launch a conventional weapons attack on places like Mecca without it escalating then you are beyond clueless...

Tsar Bomba is the biggest ever detonated (around 50 MT) but was much less practical than multiple smaller warheads.

Castle Bravo was 2nd biggest (15 MT) and was a very unexpected near-disaster. Expected yield was about 1/2 what they got.

Yep, I remember in the docudrama "Threads" where there were captions highlighting the 'priority' economic targets of an attack on cities after the first missile salvo has already hit NATO military sites. The subsequent collapse of what was left of society and it's further diminishing after the extreme winters, disease, starvation and subsequent low yield harvests for those who did survive through the years was chilling.
