Fixed that for you.
That's right. Thanks. My apologies to the people of either state.

I'm only an hour away and have a lot of close friends that live in that area.
That's what comes from hurrying now and again.

Oddly enough he's a registered Democrat who is more conservative than most Republicans

Having a "D" next to his name on the ballot helps him win elections in Milwaukee though. :idunno:
A man of high principle then.

How much more fun would this thread have been if it had been titled, "Make America Groot Again!"

That's right fool. I just go around making fun of people who wear hats. :plain: No, I started off by panning his polemic and then found the most interesting element of his posturing. He's a sheriff in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (thanks to WoZ for the nudge on the geographical point), wearing a cowboy hat that looks like it belongs on a runway.

And I bet he rides a horse in parades too. But his closest association with actual cowboys would be the bull he's riding to political advantage.
Wisconsin is ranked 9th out of the 50 states in cattle population:

The Stetson Hat Company is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Always has been.

You know who has more cattle than Pennsylvania?
Wisconsin has more cattle than Pennsylvania.

Wisconsin has more cattle than Wyoming, more than Colorado, more than Montana.
Are you going to make fun of people from New Mexico wearing cowboy hats? because they have less than half the cattle that Wisconsin has.

Good for Wisconsin. We once grew oranges in Alabama. It's even referenced in our state song.

Sure. I'll come back to the significance of that in a moment.

I'd make fun of anyone wearing a rig like his anywhere they wore it. The same goes for guys who buy work and off road trucks that stay immaculate and on the highway. And urban cowboys in general. Of course, in the particular case that led us down this merry trail it was a part of a larger comment/inferential dismissal of some heady public posturing on the part of the sheriff in question.

The cowboy idea we've institutionalized here was borrowed from Vaqueros in northern Mexico and spread north and south to become institutions in the Texas, New Mexico and general western area of the country. The idea made its way and impression north via cattle drives to markets as far removed as the Dakotas. As to Stetson, the "cowboy hat" was largely an invention of the smart industrialist. The early favorite of western cowboys was the eastern bowler. Stetson, while influenced by some elements of the Mexican Vaqueros, invented and brought his notion to the West. Smart man.

So is he appropriating their culture when he wears his hat?
What kind of hat is TH approved for the Sheriff from Wisconsin?

Never part of my commentary. Tom Mix wore ridiculous "cowboy" bits too, but at least he actually was one and only donned the costumes to meet the expectations of people who couldn't saddle a horse if their lives depended on it.

The fact is this sheriff from Wisconsin wore a hat no actual cowboy would wear to do what a cowboy actually does, and managed it while giving a speech in bow tie and suit. It was funny because of the degree of posturing and the way it summed an impression. And that's the long and short of it, not some insult to law enforcement, not an insult to gun safety, and not TH dictating what chapeau you can wear when atop that horse you rode in on.

So the bow tie is a problem now too?

It's an affectation of sorts, as is the hat in question and for the reasons given now at least a couple of times...can't wait to see what you try to turn this into next. Something about suits, I suppose.

Make America Great Again

Trump and Ryan have just put the majority of House members on the record for supporting a bill that was negotiated behind closed doors, had 3 hours of debate, hasn't been costed and most members have never read!

To add insult to injury, they had the audacity to celebrate, with the President, the betrayal of the American people in the White House rose garden - something that they will regret dearly come the 2018 Midterms!

I'm sleeping just fine - secure in the knowledge that Trump is below 40% in the polls and that this healthcare legislation is probably even more unpopular than the last one - 17% approval!

Its the Republican House members, who have just dug their political burial plots in the White House rose garden, than should be awake at night - dreading how they are going to face their constituents in those public meetings!

I can hardly wait for the press coverage of those Republican House members attempting to explain their actions during those public meetings with their adoring constituents!
