And intelligence community leaders and experts in Russia and cybersecurity have said they agreed with this conclusion in testimony before Congress in the months since. "The final piece of Russia's modern Active Measures surfaced in the summer of 2016 as hacked materials were strategically leaked," said Clint Watts, senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute and former FBI special agent, in a March 30 Senate hearing. "The disclosures of WikiLeaks, Guccifer 2.0 and DC Leaks demonstrated how hacks would power the influence system Russia had built so successfully in the previous two years." There’s evidence that Russia engaged in cyber operations against Republicans, too, though it wasn’t as robust as the DNC hack. "The Russians used cyber operations against both political parties, including hacking into servers used by the Democratic National Committee and releasing stolen data to WikiLeaks and other media outlets," said former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper in a May hearing. "Russia also collected on certain Republican Party-affiliated targets, but did not release any Republican-related data." - private investigator as denying he has any firsthand knowledge of purported Rich/WikiLeaks contact.
- FBI is not investigating the Rich murder
- Rich family is demanding retractions from Fox
"Nick M" would now have us believe that the private investigator, the FBI and Seth Rich's own family are all part of this conspiracy!

The Seth Richard's story is a perfect example of the thread OP ... fake news.
To go along with the fake news regarding Trump, Russia, and other made up things, CNN had 3 people resign over their known bogus story. They new it was fake news, so did CNN. They just got caught.
Thomas Frank, who wrote the story in question; Eric Lichtblau, an editor in the unit; and Lex Haris, who oversaw the unit, have all left CNN.

An internal investigation by CNN management found that some standard editorial processes were not followed when the article was published, people briefed on the results of the investigation said.
The story, which reported that Congress was investigating a "Russian investment fund with ties to Trump officials," cited a single anonymous source.

An earlier version of this story said that Comey would dispute Trump's interpretation of their conversations. But based on his prepared remarks, Comey outlines three conversations with the President in which he told Trump he was not personally under investigation.
