Atheists believe....?

No strain of atheism is passive. All are active because all actively refuse and deny the idea of God, which is why they are called atheism. Some are just more honest about it then the others.

What is there to deny? I have had no experience or interaction with any gods. At most, I could consider the possibility of a deistic god of some sort who maybe created the universe and then was hands-off after that point.

Which statement is most true?
1. Atheism is a belief in the non-existence of God. (And generally, they believe that life came from non life)

2. Atheists don't have to and usually don't believe when they don't know the fact.*

Neither one of those statements is true. The truth is God's existence is written in the heart of each person Romans 2:14-16.

Haydock Bible and Commentary on that verse:

“these men are a law to themselves, and have it written in their hearts, as to the existence of a God, and their reason tells them, that many sins are unlawful: they may also do some actions that are morally good, as by giving alms to relieve the poor, honoring their parents, etc. not that these actions, morally good, will suffice for their justification of themselves, or make them deserve a supernatural reward in the kingdom of heaven; but God, out of His infinite mercy, will give them some supernatural graces” which if they continue to cooperate with they will get more graces and eventually be exposed to the Catholic Faith, which they must have to be saved."

That's interesting ...though why the Catholic Faith in particular? Is that etched into our hearts as well?

Give us a straight, honest answer:

When you find yourself standing in judgment before Him, what would you offer as as your best excuse for your life of unbelief? (assuming He even gives you that opportunity to justify yourself, which I seriously doubt He's going to do for anyone). But if He does, what will you tell Him?

Dead serious question, answer in kind. Please.

Why don't you ask your God? He is supposedly the author of faith. And for those who don't believe it is because they are not of his sheep. Mind you this doesn't say that people are not of his sheep because they don't believe, but the very opposite!

Assuming you're at least 20, within 80-90 years at the statistical outside. Probably sooner.

You see creation but reject it's witness to Him. You've seen the evidence of design but reject it. You understand ex nihilo nihil fit but reject it. You have the witness of your own conscience but you reject it. You've heard of God's grace to you in Christ but reject Him. All of that leaves you utterly without excuse. But He gives you that choice. Just don't think you'll be able to claim you weren't warned or didn't know.

Boy, you theists are all over the place with your beliefs. Some of you believe the world started from a cosmic egg, while others believe the universe has always existed (not to mention hundreds of other origins stories). So what evidence do you have to prove that these other origins stories are false and that your particular version is true?

You must be really insecure in your belief if you need to accuse those who don't buy into your religion of insincerity, based on a verse from an old book that was written and compiled by men. Nothing is written on any ones heart. The heart is an internal organ for pumping blood, that's it.

Preaching at none believers is obviously just a means to bolster your own belief since you must , by now, be aware that it has no effect on sceptics at all. In fact, the more preachy posts get the more bogus the whole thing appears.

A shred of evidence would have far more power than a universe full of of mindless preaching. Trouble is, you have none. Evidence is the enemy since a sincere critical search for honest evidence might lead to doubt or even de-conversion

Faith can be used to believe anything. Faith = gullibility IMO.

Romans 2:16 "In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel."

Clearly it's some guy called Paul not God written in your heart since God will apparently be using Paul's Gospel to Judge us by.

And if theists go to be with God in Heaven, where do you think non-theists {atheists} go for eternal life, considering the soul and spirit do not ever die, but live forever. There is no eternal death. Death and Hell are cast into the 'lake of fire' and those not found in the Book of Life also the same fate {see Rev. 20:13,14,15KJV}. Where do you send a soul who does not even believe in it's own Maker/God?? Most likely you will be able to guess this one??

Michael, don't you think it undermines your religion to tell atheists who live ethical, moral and good lives that they will go to hell simply because God choose to leave them in doubt about his existence?

What is good about that sort of god?

He's been told about those horrible hell fire threats many times. He even stopped it for a while. But in the end he just can't seem to help himself :deadhorse:

Doing good apart from God gets broken down to pride. One's effort of goodness is meant to puff of the self, one's ego and one's own power, one's own attempt at needlessnees for the One who gave them everything.

What self respecting person would not shout fire, when a building is on fire? Ironically without Christ's love and hope which is what we attempt to preach up more, inately everyone knows there is impending doom, darkness.

Yeah, blah blah blah! They've really done a number on you for sure. And you can't see it because even the possibility that you could be wrong is more than you could bare. Try yelling fire in a crowded theatre that is not on fire and see how that respect thing works for you. You could try your ace "personal experience" card if you must but what you really need is real demonstrable roaring flame.

But, alas, an invisible spiritual inferno would be no better than a magic man in the sky that loves you and is always there to sort out all your ills.

Thanks for the suggestion though, but I have this deep meaningful relationship with reality :)

It's no secret that Michael thinks he has a direct line to his invisible friend, but if it's evidence you seek, try nailing blancmange to a wooden door..... :rotfl:

A reality with no hope in this blink of an eye existence...doesn't sound so meaningful. Its natural to be deathly afraid of death, but some have hope, something that is not natural.

There is plenty of hope - hope to leave the world a better place than when you arrived, gain a form of immortality by raising successful children and grandchildren, contribute to society and make it a better place for having you around, and so on.

Don't focus on the selfish personal rewards you imagine are available in an afterlife - concentrate on the real here and now and make it better for everyone else.

Atheists believe? that not being alive didn't bother anyone before this life, so let's live this life not wait for a an imaginary afterlife that might never end?
