    Religious Zealotry

The problem is that the mitigating factors involved in determining what is "murder" play havoc on the absolutist's fantasy of there being 'right and wrong and nothing else'. When we begin to actually apply that over-simplistic absolutist nonsense to the real world, it falls apart rather quickly...

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

It is self-evident to anyone that bothers to consider it.

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

We are born with it. The ability to choose love, forgiveness, kindness, and generosity is always within us.

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

The law is for those who are unable or unwilling to live by the spirit. They had the law. As they still do.

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

You cannot grasp that a fetus is not a baby. It becomes a baby at some point, but to you that's not comprehensible. Because right is right and wrong is wrong and you must be right. Nothing else matters.

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

On the other hand, ending a pregnancy before it becomes "a baby" isn't nearly so heinous. The problem with this obsession with self-righteousness is that it condemns everything that contradicts it, because it just can't allow itself to be wrong. Or even partly wrong. That is also 'insane'.

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

I don't know why they did those things. I suspect there were a lot of reasons, not the least of which was a genetic drive to dominate their fellow humans by the force of violence and viciousness. A genetic drive that exists in some people, even today.

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

Love is far more than not lying, cheating or killing. And it certainly is not about being "right".

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

If you need laws and rules to tell you how to love your fellow humans, you clearly don't know how to love your fllow humans. All those laws and rules are for those who do not recognize God's spirit within them. For those who do, obedience and righteousness are no longer an issue. He came to...

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

These are all observations and characteristics that apply to pretty much all humans, though. I'm more interested in why a relatively small percentage of humans become obsessed with the idea of being 'righteous'. To the point where it trumps all other concerns in terms of importance and it...

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

There is an aspect to religiosity, though, that I cannot avoid, here. And that is that personalities are drawn to the religions and religiuos ideologies that enable them. That is most people choose the religious paths that justify and rationalize who they already are, as opposed to choosing a...

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

That possibility always exists. For any of us. But fearing the worst, in ignorance, doesn't seem like a very logical or effective way to live.

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

Yes, there is. The story of Christ in the NT brings us the revelation and promise that if we will allow God's love to act within us and through us to others it will heal us and save us from ourselves, and help us to help others in the same way. It's not about "obedience" or "righteousness". It's...

It depends on how badly one needs to be right. As with any addiction, one's need can greatly overpower fact or reason.

He needn't have bothered with all the moaning and crying. He was forgiven the moment his heart felt sincere remorse.

Why are you asking me that? What's it to you what I want to be or what my "next step" is? Seriously, I'm honestly asking. Because it appears as though you are seeing yourself as being in some sort of 'charge' of my choices, or as if you're in some sort of 'overseer' position, and I don't get...

    The Religion of Blinding Bluster

I find this statement very interesting in that it offers the word "love" but is not referring to the actuality of love, but rather to the actuality of control. And this causes me to wonder if these children were ever shown actual love, or if they were simply shown a need/desire to control them...
