I like Murray's quote. It is terribly hard to walk between the lines of heretical views and I am always working on exact language that will enable that walk. I yet wonder at wills, but the same might be problematic with 'two natures' as well. Thanks for the background reading and information.

After I responded with, "For the want of a quarter..." I had the sad suspicion that more than a few would wonder what I meant while some would be sure it had something to do with a phone call. :smack: I nearly went back and added nail to give the breadth impaired an even shot...then I thought, maybe that's part of the point. lain:

It is a difficult discussion, imho, but I believe two wills also has its own problems. I don't go as far as the monthelitist position because I recognize the tug between divine and human will, but I see that more pertaining to his human and divine nature than of the will. Perhaps I agree but need to learn the semantics and argument better, thus I'll spend a bit of time reading and understanding this and my disagreement in that light. My concern is against gnostic ideas that Jesus Christ was two separate beings and/or merely a man indwelled by the Spirit (hence two separate wills). I think the 'language' of it is what I'm resisting, though I've no better terms that avoids both heresies

After a bit of wrestling, I might devote a bit of time on Christology in the Triune thread or start another altogether.
