Not a problem. I think you'll find my response irenic enough. I remember a youth pastor, terrific fellow, trying to talk me into what I termed the "God business" a long time ago and telling me about the hell he meant to help me avoid.
I gave him my general response on hell as a motivation to someone who didn't believe in the author then asked him, "How would you feel about this pitch if you had a loved one who died outside of the faith?" And I'll never forget his answer. He had. A parent. I don't know if I was more horrified by or for him, but I wished him well and suggested, being familiar with what I considered his mythology, that he couldn't know how God would judge, but that if he insisted in believing in God he could at least credit God with doing a just, merciful and good job of it.
I still believe that. Well, really believe that now.
