I have a lot of faith in the future generations. If democracy holds, and the republic holds together, I think the reversal is inevitably short-lived, although Republicans can do a lot of damage while they are in power. It could even be a good chance to clean house in the Democratic party. What worries me in the long run is the resemblance between Trump and a fascist strongmen, and the seeming trend toward fascism worldwide, organized by Russia in a lot of cases, and the potential for the Constitutional order to be overturned or corrupted. In the short term, I really think there are some groups of people who are at some level of threat, and I don't think I'm entitled to sit back and wait for a projected inevitable better world.

I think I see your problem.
I know what I think of Trump as a person, but I'm not sure what that will mean for the office. We've had any number of presidents with questionable to little character. Some of them were good for the country anyway. One of the most politically corrupt rascals we've seen in the office was also responsible for some of the most important civil rights legislation in our nation's history.
Trump is a number of odious, regrettable things. He's also very smart and extremely driven. If he puts the right people in place around him and Congress forces a measure of restraint...I'm trying to be optimistic.

Unlike Trump, who decided the production was overrated and called for an apology, Pence stayed to hear the narration aimed at him and was complimentary of the production. Additionally, when he and his daughter were greeted by boos from some quarters he said to her, "That's what freedom sounds like."
I might not agree with him half the time, but I like the quality of that.
Also, I don't think a patron of a theater event should be singled out for public address unless he's behaving badly, as was the case with a Trump supporter in Chicago who had to be escorted from a production after making catcalls and while apparently inebriated. If Bernie goes into Chick fil A for a sandwich it shouldn't mean a conservative manager has the right to call out his politics. Just give the man his sandwich. Similarly, just let the man enjoy a play.
