Trump revealed highly classified intel in Oval Office meeting with Russians

President Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting last week, according to current and former U.S. officials, who said that Trump’s disclosures jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State.

The information Trump relayed had been provided by a U.S. partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, officials said.

The partner had not given the United States permission to share the material with Russia, and officials said that Trump’s decision to do so risks cooperation from an ally that has access to the inner workings of the Islamic State. After Trump’s meeting, senior White House officials took steps to contain the damage, placing calls to the CIA and National Security Agency.

“This is code-word information,” said a U.S. official familiar with the matter, using terminology that refers to one of the highest classification levels used by American spy agencies. Trump “revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.”

The revelation comes as Trump faces rising legal and political pressure on multiple Russia-related fronts. Last week, he fired FBI Director James B. Comey in the midst of a bureau investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Moscow. Trump’s subsequent admission that his decision was driven by “this Russia thing” was seen by critics as attempted obstruction of justice.

The day after this President terminated Director Comey, Trump went off script and began describing details about an Islamic State terrorist threat related to the use of laptop computers on aircraft to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Trump and his supporters have been highly critical of Hillary Clinton of having classified emails on her personal server.

Officials expressed concern with Trump’s handling of sensitive information as well as his grasp of the potential consequences. Exposure of an intelligence stream that has provided critical insight into the Islamic State, they said, could hinder the United States’ and its allies’ ability to detect future threats.

Trump seemed to be boasting about his inside knowledge of the looming threat. “I get great intel. I have people brief me on great intel every day,” Trump said, according to an official with knowledge of the exchange.

The Washington Post has been asked by officials to withhold details, including the name of the city, at the urging of officials who warned that revealing them would jeopardize important intelligence capabilities.

Apparently the self-deluded alt-right thinks this highly classified information was in the public domain before Trump blabbed to the Russians.

Last week, this President sent the Vice President and Press Secretary out with a false narrative to explain Director Comey's firing - only to have the whole story debunked Thursday afternoon in a MSNBC interview.

When Trump surrogates are sent out to lie to the nation time and time again, he has squandered any chance of being given the benefit of the doubt!

The source of this leak had to be a high level senior official - because they and the Russians were the only ones present in the Oval Office with the President!

Trump and his supporters were chanting "lock her up!" after the FBI found classified material on her private server.

There was never any evidence that this classified material fell into the wrong hands, or that Clinton deliberately volunteered classified material to the Russians - in the Oval Office places!

If you’ve got travel plans involving the Middle East and Africa, pack some books. The Department of Homeland Security is requiring passengers on some airlines serving those regions to pack their gadgets—cellphones and medical devices excepted—in their checked bags.

apparently revealing the following: “I get great intel. I have people brief me on great intel every day,” is treasonous

if you're a retard

or a wapo reporter desperate for a story
Senior officials persuaded the Washington Post to withhold certain information to protect sources and methods - that would hardly be necessary if the story was false!

At least the Post is acting like the adult in the room - which is more than can be said of this President!

Last week, "ok dossier" and "Nick M" would have been "parroting" the White House narrative that the President fired the FBI Director based on the report of the Assistant Attorney General and that it had nothing to do with "this Russian thing!"

You would think that Trump supporters would be embarrassed to rush to his defence after having had the "rug pulled out from under them" as recently as last week!

But no - they will argue that "black is white," "up is down" and "in is out" with a straight face!

Why - because words and facts have no meaning in their "alternate universe" and they refuse to held accountable!

Like Trump - they have NO SHAME!

Jgarden, what do you think we should do with North Korea? I mean, short of either invading them, or organizing a massive coup d'etat, what should we do to achieve lasting peace with them, without having to do the unfortunate but truly right thing and cripple that country militarily? They are a menace. And you have to take into account that both China and Russia are sort of friendly with them, so you can't just go in the country, which is the right thing to do with a menacing entity with dangerous weapons. What are your thoughts? What is your view, on what we should do, about North Korea? One day we're going to find that poor Japan is yet again the only victims of nuclear weaponry, unless we do something about North Korea. And Japan can't defend themselves, because of the peace agreement from after WWII.

They swallow it all...hook, line, and sinker. The Washington Post and the New York Times are having quite a contest, and the libs don't even know they're being fed cheap chum. :chuckle:
