Someday in the future, God will once again expect and require of people to abstain from unclean foods, as He did before.

Really?

Bah!

Where in Holy Scripture do you find this teaching?

Adam did not have to build an ark. Noah did not have to circumsize. Abraham didn't have to observe the Sabbath.

All such events proved to be necessarily ordained by God as typologies of the Covenant promises of Christ.

Moses didn't have to tithe 100% (as Jewish believers did in the gospels and early Acts). And none of them had to believe in the resurrection of the God-Man, Jesus Christ.

You are confusing law with fruits of grace, and seriously straying off the reservation, fella . . .

Man is obligated under the Law to believe all of God's Word of Promise, which includes all of what you flippantly mention and discard.

Jesus Christ has fulfilled all the small details, plus has gifted His chosen people with faith to believe all the big stuff.

As far as I can detect, your teachings are terribly suspect and unorthodox.

I would suggest TOL readers take your comments along with a huge grain of salt!

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call-- one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Ephesians 4:1-6ESV

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Ephesians 5:1-21ESV

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
Ephesians 6:10-18ESV

The Great God Obama, our New Messiah, only requires two things of me: blind belief in him and his dictates and additional tax revenues.

We've had strong confrontations and relatively amicable discussions--well, one at least, but I haven't seen you do something this inappropriate before. You should withdraw the remark I've edited out above. This thread is about the obligations of faith in relation to God. Your response is wildly out of bounds and I strongly urge you to reconsider and remove it.

The Christian God that concerns me doesn't require anything of me. I am obeying God's laws either consciously or unconsciously. That is the choice open to man that Christianity offers. Either obey universal laws as a reactionary animal or as a conscious being.

The only God that requires something of me is one of the false Gods Simone referred to that those open to meaning beyond the confines of society cannot believe in. One such god is the Great Obama God of the Great Beast. It wants blind obedience (faith) and tax money.

That is the way it is regardless of your righteous indignation.

No matter what the thread topic, it will always be Simone for N/A. I think N/A has his gods all mixed up. :squint:

That's closer to an actual response, whatever one thinks of it. I omit your recurring and grotesque co-mingling of political/religious descriptive.

I know you don't actually understand that your saying a thing doesn't make the thing so, but for the record I'm no more upset here than I was in our more civil exchange. Part of how I made a living required me to be able to use frequently spirited debate and then laugh with the fellow doing the same when the issue was decided. My objections are never founded in an emotionally distorted posit. That runs contrary to my training, inclination and rearing.

I thought our recent relatively civil exchange, along with my normal practice of fair warning required me to object here first and give you the opportunity to reconsider... Having made the attempt I'll leave it to the judgment of the moderators. Your initial post was nothing more or less than an inappropriate response meant to derail the expressed intent of the OP.

It was needlessly crude, divisive in intent and off the established path.

No. You are confusing the Christian God with the personal Hebrew God of the OT. This is an old misconception that served as one of the main reasons for the quick devolution of Christianity into the many facets of Christendom.

To move this back to the OP: God requires me to live in relation with Him. It is the reason I was born and the thing that uplifts and fulfills me, constitutes my happiness and my hope.

Well Nick, it was righteous indignation.

Misrepresentation and Simone eulogies don't help you at all.

Simone was both honest and intelligent enough to realize the importance of recognizing and not becoming psychological slaves of false gods and false prophets. She knew that a prophet could actually be a loss and how easily people are swallowed up in self deception.

It is a highly insulting observation and worthy of the most volitile expressions of righteous indignation but non-the -less, it is an observation worth making regardless of all this emoting.

Sniff.

Leave Simone Alone
