If you actually want to hold this view consistently then you must concede that all of the above are moral, as well as masturbation (which I assume you've already implicitly conceded).

Hi Zip :e4e: - just wanted to quickly fire this at you.

Do I understand from the above that you actually view masturbation as immoral?

Wow! :noway:

Why???

I don't want to derail the thread. I've been averse to masturbation since before I was religious. Along with what I said to Rusha it hurts relationships and demotes the sexual act to candy. I have much respect for the sexual act within the sanctity of marriage. It is a divine gift that is intimately tied to another person, it is when two become one flesh. Ripping that gift of selfless and mutual love out of context for personal pleasure is ...problematic in my eyes, to say the very least. This is the same reason we Christians are against fornication and therefore homosexuality.

Secular reasons: addiction and porn/demoting women to objects
I would certainly take issue with that but it would take us off-topic.

However - if we consider the case of women masturbating without any reference to pornography......is that immoral in your view?

Metaphysical reasons: It frustrates the natural end of the reproductive organs and it hinders Christian Charity

How does it hinder Christian charity?

Porn was not mentioned and has nothing to do with the question. Also, why would women be demoted as objects but not men? In reference to the question, that is not a gender specific activity.

 Are you stating that sex should only be used for procreation?

And exactly *how* is Christian charity hindered?

I don't want to derail the thread either, however, I don't see the logic in any of the reasons you have stated. Maybe the discussion needs to have it's own thread. :idunno:

I did this dance with Granite awhile back, though I forget the thread name

I'm afraid we are derailing the thread a bit and I am also afraid that we are entering a topic that has historically caused unease on TOL. If you guys want to make a thread with Knight's favor feel free, you can also pm me if you'd like. I think I've expressed my view for the purposes of this thread and anything more seems like it would be off-topic.

I completely understand, Zip.

No problemo! :)

For it, totally.

I don't understand why two people who love each other can not be married. If they are allowed to adopt children,( as they should be) I don't see the issue with a legal marriage.

I don't understand how the argument of being able to biologically produce children even has relevance with this topic.

and your avatar isn't?

:chuckle: It's Lady Gaga, Chrys... she's very important to me right now and I just like the idea of incorporating her into my identity.

ANYWAY..... when I said I found your view "strange" I didn't mean the word to carry a pejorative sense. Honestly, Chrys.
I only meant that I don't instinctively feel the things you expressed about nature in your post.

Perhaps it has no relevance, (depending on your perspective) I just thought I would mention it. I think it goes along with the topic of gay marriage, even though it is not the subject.
