I haven’t posted here in years in years, and I probably shouldn’t make my first return post about something so controversial. But unfortunately as a person who manages critical care units in acute care hospitals, i long ago stopped laughing at these groups. They have made my life and work so much more difficult, and these ridiculous Covid conspiracy theories have so challenged my ability to save lives, I just can’t see the funny.

Believe me, I understand the seriousness of what you say. I was reading elsewhere yesterday the account by a critical care nurse devastated at losing another Covid patient they'd hoped would be eligible for a lung transplant but wasn't and they lost him despite ECMO and everything they tried to do. The nurse was devastated. And exhausted.
Thank you for all you and your teams are doing and have done, despite the political machine working against your best efforts.
Do you believe children are at serious risk of getting covid and dying from it? Do you think masks are effective at preventing the spread of the covid virus? If so, how?

American Academy of Pediatrics is claiming that 20% of all Covid cases are now in children. That’s largely because we arent immunizing them, of course, and it’s a shifting demographic. I will say children have played a much smaller role in this than they do any flu season on record.
But I’m still not super worried about kids. The cases I’m seeing are young adults, esp with early underlying chronic disease (which is usually poorly managed). I’ve had many people in 20s to 40s going south on me in the last few weeks.
As to masks, well, in the hospital we only wear N95s in Covid rooms, use regular masks everywhere else. Despite all the sick people around us, masks have protected us very well.

The key word there is "cases", which means absolutely nothing at all. What is the percentage of deaths or hospitalizations that are children?
Who gives a crap about "cases". A person can get the China Virus then naturally get rid of it and never even know he had it. So what. All that matters is, who has been hospitalized and or died? Do you have that statistic?

As I said directly below it, I’m not worried about the cases in kids, other than their ability to be a source of infection. AND the ability to allow the production of new variants in Covid. There is a reason we are still not recommending vaccination in that group. The discussion now is the case count in younger adults, which is driving new hospitalizations in my county.
Let’s be clear, I’ve be at the bedside for dozens of actual deaths of Covid patients, and had to organize visitation via moon suits and zoom apps. I want this over more than anyone. But as cases still arrive to my hospital, I can’t just pretend it’s gone.

3) Even though you said you are not too concerned about kids, is it not true that kids are far more likely to die from the Flu than the China Virus? And that being the case, why is it that closures and masks were not mandatory for kids every Flu season. That seems to me to be a glaring hypocrisy. Thoughts?
Final question: Do you know much about all the doctors who were silenced and banned from social media and suppressed from news outlets because they had different ideas about the China Virus and its dangers and cures? And I am thinking of Dr. Simone Gold for one.

2) the new variants popping up from allowing uncontrolled spread is now bypassing waning immunity from natural infection. And my hospital system is still overwhelmed. I don’t know how to help you there.
3) because kids have access to flu shots every year, and the death count from flu over the last decade is still less than Covid for the last 14 months
I’m well aware of all of that. I run ICUs, it’s my life’s work. I use what works, and have 14 awful, traumatic months of practice.

Your hospital system is overwhelmed? Almost all projections that hospitals would be overflowing from China Virus cases turned out to be a LIE. It never happened. Where are you that you are so overwhelmed? And are you overwhelmed because of the China Virus itself or because of mismanagement due to goofy restrictions? Do you have lines of China Virus victims in front of the door?
Nice dodge there. Actually its a dumb doge but I was being kind. The fact that kids had access to shots means absolutely nothing. Shots or no shots, masks and distancing would have cut into the 30,000 annual deaths from the Flu, but they never do it. Every year they never do it, despite the thousands of deaths the year before. Why.
So because you run ICU's, you know all about these doctors and their opinions and them being banned from the news and social media. Really? Because you run ICU's. That's not even Osmosis. That's amazing. Maybe I should hang out with you. Who knows what flashes of clairvoyant information might come to me.

A) no, you won’t, because you aren’t a clinician with a graduate degree and 20 years of experience. I’ve signed death certificates for years, based on my ability to use science to determine why people die. Radiology, labs tests, assessments. It’s called medicine? Why is that a strange concept?
b). In January I had Covid patients taking over pacu, day surgery, and anywhere else I could put them. These days, we prefer to keep those patients on the floors, and we hold our emergency overflows in pacu and anywhere I can keep them. The system has been running on fumes for months. It’s a mixed bag, sure.
c) we have done for historical flu pandemics. I don’t know why we don’t have the appetite for it now?
D). I run ICUs, so I have been pilloried by the opinions of those physicians for months from other folks, as is inevitable.
I’m not answering that last, primarily as your tone has been inexplicably hostile from your first answer for reasons I don’t understand.

My tone? The very first post I read of yours mentioned a few things. You said, "I long ago stopped laughing at these groups" which I took as meaning conservative groups because you were talking to our resident leftwing socialist extremist, even though we are right on the science and democrats are wrong. Then you said, "They have made my life and work so much more difficult" which I call Bull Hockey on, because I am quite sure that you go to work in the morning and come home every day as usual. And any difficulty you have experienced can likely be attributed to the draconian unnecessary measures taken by democrat governors. Then you said, "these ridiculous Covid conspiracy theories" which, again, I took as a slam against conservatives even though, again, we are right on the science and democrats are wrong.
So, tone? The initial tone I got from you is that you are a Leftist who believes a lot of crap about the China Virus, your years of alleged "expertise" not withstanding.
Naturally I therefore approached you with a measured small amount of aggressiveness, but not too much.
I have found your answers very unconvincing.

That is an absolutely insane number of assumptions made about me, what my professional life has been like the last 14 months, my lived experience with coronavirus and who or what I may have been referencing in a single line in a prior paragraph. Enough assumptions to the point that I’ve been relegated to a democratic socialist something another? If we’re operating under this many assumptions, and that dictated the tone I have received, then I wonder why we are talking at all, as I’ve been given no credit for whom I might be based on my actual answers? In other words, would you agree that these people who DID die, did not have much longer to live anyways? (pre-existing conditions that were made worse by becoming infected with the virus, for example) Say, perhaps less than a year or two, if even that?

I read a study earlier this year that concluded that, globally, as of January the world had lost 20 million life years to Covid, with the average loss being 16 years per death. 2.5 million years in the US. That number doesn’t count the surges in Brazil or India.
