who also am your brother was in Ephesus not too far from Patmos in the year 401 when Jerome was finishing the Vulgate 405. The big question was whether it should include the Apocalypse. Jerome had to be convinced it was written by John the Apostle. Chrysostom would also need that proof. He had three months to get it.

Historians love dates but they often can't get them right. They can't even agree on which calendar to use. Who gets to start a calendar? Mark your calendar. Save a date.

A Location
when applied to seas. Few are aware that the Mediterranean sea is the white sea for the Turks. The colors become significant locations west, south, and north of Patmos where the Apocalypse was written. It can help us identify the riders of the white, red, and black horses.

A Risk
worth taking. Weighing the risks is part of living. Being aware of the consequences is part of wisdom. Death is the ultimate consequence. Not the first one. The second one. Be not afraid of them that kill the body. Be afraid of who can kill the soul. The one who promises eternal life. Be careful. Be kind.

The next big prophetic event will be either the Jews' building a new temple in Jerusalem, or the coming of the "man of sin/beast from the sea/antichrist/son of perdition" to power. A Good Thing
that helps make sense of what we experience. What makes an explanation reasonable? It fits. It is consistent with what we already know. A piece of the puzzle must fit to be part of the big picture. There must be a reason. A good one. Look for it.

or kings as in dynasties. Way too many kings to count but dynasties not so much. Look for beasts with ten or seven dynasties. Both the dragon in chapter 12 and the beast in chapter 13 have seven heads and ten horns. The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit. There are not that many candidates.

of Babylon the Great. Constantinople is the fulfillment on that prophecy. No other city can satisfy what has been written. It is a mystery to this day. Likely to remain so until the end when all will be revealed. The future will make history clear to all. Today it can be found no more at all.

for your interpretation. It will always fit. Just ignore history that will never fit. Just ignore numbers and colors that all the bible versions agree on. Your agenda, and we all have one, needs scripture to support it. That too often is the easy part. Translating the bible is not an exact science. We have at least 59 different English versions. Find one that works for you.

and was told to prophesy again. This suggests a second writer of the Apocalypse and why John seems to introduce himself more than once in chapter one. Multiple writers have been suggested by multiple commentaries. It addresses why there is little agreement as to when it was written and who wrote it.

is possible. Faith is necessary but so is reason, logic, and understanding. Wisdom is not a gift. It comes with wanting and willing to do the right thing. The right thing can be known by all. All law hangs on loving God and your neighbor. This has been revealed.

A Distraction
from a literal interpretation. What does a thousand years mean? A thousand years. This should be our first guess. Numbers may be the only literal part of prophecy. Something the translators couldn't get wrong. Everything else in our 59 different English versions of the bible might be suspect.
