Borders used to be up for grabs to the strongest. International law was created later. Now, there are some who only want secure borders for non Europeans.

The colonies had borders since long before the Revolution. We fought a number of wars with Native Americans over their lands, don't you think that implies that they had a concept that some of them were theirs?
Granted, and it is good that we now recognize that it is wrong to just kill people and take their stuff. Does that mean the prior behavior was right? There was nothing past tense about glory-daze's comment.
I don't think that's true on either side.
You know who hasn't gotten the message about borders? Vladamir Putin. And that understanding is only as strong as the international order guaranteeing it, which Putin is undermining constantly, now with Trump's help.

Borders were not guaranteed. Just because there was a map, doesn't mean you had the land by law. A stronger force could change it.
