Pope Says Mary is the Mother of Forgiveness

If Jesus is the fount of all forgiveness, and Mary is the mother of Jesus, then Mary is the mother of forgiveness. Likewise, if Jesus is Mercy Itself, and Mary is the mother of Jesus, then Mary is the mother of Mercy.

Mary is not the mother of Jesus resurrected body.. the new one given him by his father. And since he existed with God at creation.. calling her Mother of God is kind of dumb unless you believe he participated in creation.

Anyhow, the Catholics veneration of Mary is just a symptom of the over arching problem... since its been stripped of its political power, it has enshrined the 'family' as their new idol.. while it tries to stay relevant. And a 'family' needs a mother.

This is an angle of how the Catholic Church goes about Mary- she's the 'mother of forgiveness' because she literally gave birth to Christ.

By the same measure, she is also seen as the 'Ark of the New Covenant'- in literally giving birth to Christ.

The RCC has spent a whole lot of time graphing Mary into the holiest core of Christianity.
One can't help but notice that it is something which grows more and more rampant. The pope can barely speak without mentioning Mary.
They weren't doing this a century ago- it's like they've started using Mary as a divider between them and the rest of Christianity.

Clearly, God is the only one who can offer forgiveness, not the church. The divine condition for forgiveness is repentance, not penance, as the pope teaches." Pro-Gospel.org

Can God accomplish His forgiveness through people? Or do you say God cannot do this?

John 20:21-23

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Hm...

If Jesus sent you a fruit basket in the mail, and the mailman delivered it, is the fruit not still from Jesus? :)

Why did Jesus say that?
Do you disagree with Him?

[Ac 4:12] John 20:21-23

"The appearance before the ten (20:19–23)
The fearful ones (20:19a): The disciples are meeting behind locked doors for fear of the Jews.
The faithful one (20:19b–23)
He comforts them (20:19b–20): Suddenly Jesus appears, showing them his hands and side.
He commissions them (20:21–23): They are to become his Spirit-filled witnesses." Willmington, H. L. (1999). The Outline Bible (Jn 20:16–23). Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers.

So do you disagree with Jesus' words in John 20?

No.

"Jn 20:23 See notes on Matt. 16:19; 18:18. This verse does not give authority to Christians to forgive sins. Jesus was saying that the believer can boldly declare the certainty of a sinner’s forgiveness by the Father because of the work of His Son if that sinner has repented and believed the gospel. The believer with certainty can also tell those who do not respond to the message of God’s forgiveness through faith in Christ that their sins, as a result, are not forgiven." "Mt 16:19 the keys of the kingdom of heaven. These represent authority, and here Christ gives Peter (and by extension all other believers) authority to declare what was bound or loosed in heaven. This echoed the promise of John 20:23, where Christ gave the disciples authority to forgive or retain the sins of people. All this must be understood in the context of 18:15–17, where Christ laid out specific instructions for dealing with sin in the church (see note on 18:15). The sum of it all means that any duly constituted body of believers, acting in accord with God’s Word, has the authority to declare if someone is forgiven or unforgiven. The church’s authority is not to determine these things, but to declare the judgment of heaven based on the principles of the Word. When they make such judgments on the basis of God’s Word, they can be sure heaven is in accord. In other words, whatever they “bind” or “loose” on earth is already “bound” or “loosed” in heaven. When the church says the unrepentant person is bound in sin, the church is saying what God says about that person. When the church acknowledges that a repentant person has been loosed from that sin, God agrees." MacArthur, J., Jr. (Ed.). (1997). The MacArthur Study Bible (electronic ed., p. 1423). We are saved by grace alone (Eph 2:8-9), through faith alone (Eph 1:13; 2Ti 1:10), in Christ alone (Isa 45:21,22; 59:16; Ac 4:12). :poly: Roman Catholics :eek:linger: deny this (Jude 1:11). :burnlib:

[MacArthur quote: The believer with certainty can also tell those who do not respond to the message of God’s forgiveness through faith in Christ that their sins, as a result, are not forgiven.] This interpretation, you believe to be correct. Is that right?

If one does not respond to the gospel, he will die in his sins (Jn 3:7, 8:24).
