You could get two out of him. Look at the minutes he sustained. One year of that and a second of meaningful bench or specialty play, like Ray Allen at the end. Worth it.

I think at Dirk's age (38) players can lose it almost overnight. If he came to the Warriors I'd prefer if he was a super 6th man kind of like Bill Walton was for the 1985-86 Celtics. Dirk has a lot of miles on his legs. He's already 12th all-time in minutes played.

Players were more "stiff" back then and the shorts were ugly

I think a lot of that has to do with how players today have more leeway to palm the ball. That allows them to dribble the ball on the side of their bodies and lean more. You can't do that if palming was more strickly enforced. Players of the past kept the ball much more in front of them. Here is some video of Oscar Robertson. Look how upright he runs and how he keeps the ball more in front of him than players of today.

You could also rest him a good deal, a-la the Spurs, though he's carried minutes well last year. And if you don't get him I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cavs do just that.

I agree with that.

If palming was called like it should be, no one could do crossovers anymore.

The once unthinkable...Rose is headed from Chicago to NY as the Bulls concede the necessity of rebuilding a team that once seemed on the verge of contending.

Gasol and Noah are up for free agent grabs. So do the Knicks go for a "now" strategy and see about those two and possibly Howard, who is also free. A lot of really good players with a little wear left on the tires. Might we see the cobbling of a contender and a trial for the Cavaliers in the making? Jackson has to be feeling pressure from within and without.

I always thought Doc was a bit robotic, certainly not as athletic as many players today.

I'm not sure what you mean. I think he was as athletic as anybody. But his jump shot is horrible. Here is his shot. You remember it. He cocked it way back and, it was not his game.

However, this was his game. He could easily fall back on it, so to speak.

You know, I'm not seeing it. From either side.

One report says Durant would rather sign with GS than OKC. If true, that has to be a gut punch if there ever was one. Makes sense from his point of view. You talk about adding Bill Walton to the Celtics, this would be like Len Bias not dying.

Oh, so now you're our resident Charles "The Round Mound of Rebound" Barkley, of TOL, with that quip, ain't you Mayor? Why don't you call up "Weight Watchers," and tell them your city is s gold mine for Weight Watchers prospects, since you hang out at the Glee Clubs, with the the 222 lb. Maud types, in hopes they may give you a gig,for your overrated, unrehearsed, spontaneous observations? You're a real kick, Mayor.

:chuckle: I'm sure the 401k stats were a little low!

Er, yes-especially since I work, part time, as a brine taster, real estate mogul, besides being a Jacque Pennyay under wear model, on weekends. My momma did that also.

Someone was putting together all time teams for each NBA franchise...some weren't very interesting. A few that are:

Timberwolves:
PG - Terrell Brandon
SG - Wally Szczerbiak
SF - Sam Mitchell
PF - Kevin Love
C - Kevin Garnett

76ers:
PG - Allen Iverson
SG - Hal Greer
SF - Julius Erving
PF - Dolph Schayes
C - Wilt Chamberlain

Lakers:
PG - Earvin "Magic" Johnson
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Elgin Baylor
PF - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
C - Shaquille O'Neal

Celtics:
PG - Bob Cousy
SG - John Havlicek
SF - Paul Pierce
PF - Larry Bird
C - Bill Russell

I'm on my phone not working at work. I'll post my opinions/corrections to the franchise lists when I get home. Like Kevin McHale and Moses Malone.

I'll see if I can find the link. Those weren't my first choices at every point either.

This would be my list:

Celtics:

PG - Bob Cousy
SG - Paul Pierce
SF - Larry Bird
PF - Kevin Garnett
C - Bill Russell

This would be a monster of offensive and defensive power.

The McHale/Garnett battle came down to defense and athleticism. As outstanding as McHale was there was a brief time when KG was arguably the best player at any position in the NBA.

Their regular season scoring was nearly identical, but KG gave you about 3 more boards, 2 more assists, and one more steal per game. McHale was a better shot, but KG gives you a little more in every other metric and his athleticism would allow him to do a better job stretching defenses and challenging offenses.

And that's using both men during their years with the team. In their prime? KG's edge becomes significant as he gave you two more points, 9 more boards, 5 more assists, and a steal better production.

This might be the only composite team that could play with that composite Lakers group.

I remember Charles Barkley saying the hardest person to defend is Kevin McHale, and he said something along the lines of You just hope he is having an off night. Chuck being 6'5" on a good day has something to do with it.

And not to be a total homer to the 80s which is the most dominate period in the NBA in my short lifetime, but Bird said Dennis Johnson is the best teammate he ever had. Or maybe it was the best teammate he had. It has been a couple of decades, ya know? I didn't root for the Celtics. It was showtime and the Lakers. Things like seeing Greg Kite come in when they are losing and having a fight start with say...Dominque Wilkins, or whomever they needed out of the game.

But I realized KC Jones being just as much of a cheater as fellow New Englander Bill Belicheat doesn't take away from how good they were.

Cousy, Havlicek, Bird, McHale, and Russel.

Good luck against that 5. And yes, the composite Lakers are the only team that could compete.

I would leave Shaq off the Lakers team. When these lists are compiled, I assume basketball rules are enforced. I know I am not telling you anything when I say the NCAA outlawed the dunk because Alcindor/Jabbar was so good, they tried to level the field. And Jabbar says that made him much better. The millennials might not know the NCAA changed rules because he was so dominant.

Magic, (Magic can play anywhere), West, Worthy, Jabbar, Chamberlain.

Yes, I think Jabbar and Chamberlain can co-exist. And people forget how much Worthy does because of his teammates being legends of the game. Worthy will do anything, and everything. Kobe is as good as anybody, but I want people that play with teammates.
