Festis Ezeli is even worse! I just never understand how athletic NBA players cannot make free throws? There is absolutly no excuse for any NBA player not to make 70% of his free throws.

Do you think hand size and angle trajectory is a factor?
It seems to be mostly 6-9 guys and taller, with big hands.

I'm sure short guys with smaller hands miss a lot of free throws too, but make more than big guys.

The NBA came in second, with a 60.5%. It was 57.3% with the NFL and 53.9% in baseball.

Do you know if that was just regular season, just postseason, or both?

Here's some stats that make no sense:

Prior to 2009, the San Diego Chargers were 0-14 all time at Pittsburgh during the regular season, but 2-0 all time at Pittsburgh in the postseason.

That's the excuse that a lot of people use. But there are plenty of big guys who were proficient free throw shooters.

I think in baseball the pitcher is a huge wildcard. No other major sport has such crucial position that greatly affects a game's outcome. If a last place team has a guy like Klayton Kershaw, then in the games he pitchers the odds of his team winning go way, way up.

Larry Bird removes all excuses. He is a tall 6'9". I thought he looked taller than Magic. Brad Daugherty from your neck of the woods might be a career 80% shooter. I would have to check. Or wait for Tet. He is 7'1".

This video explains why modern NBA defenses are far more sophisticated than in the past. The game has moved away from strict man-on-man defensive schemes. It's a lot harder to score today.

Trajectory and angle do matter. A shot with less arch has a smaller target. And touch is required, which is why Shaq can't score more than 6 feet from the basket. See Patrick Ewing for reference.
