I watched the first half last night. The game is way too frenetic, every possession is a semi-fast break with teams jacking up threes with 15 seconds left on the shot clock.

I guess I am too old school.
The only old school team in the playoffs looked too old and got taken to school. :plain: Darn Spurs. :mmph:

I wish we could, I would be the star athlete and fitness champion I was supposed to be. I'd be a lawyer or a doctor or something good. I'd be married to Cheryl Ladd and have an RV
For the best.. PJ. Cheryl snores and has bad morning breath all day long, the RV pulls to the right no matter what you do, doctors and lawyers rush over the edge of professional responsibility like drunken lemmings and Jim Fixs dropped dead of a heart attack.

Better the dream you have. :)

Due to various rule changes "old school" basektball doesn't work anymore. The game is now based more on skill and not just mugging players as they drive to the hoop.

This video explains why modern NBA defenses are far more sophisticated than in the past. The game has moved away from strict man-on-man defensive schemes. It's a lot harder to score today.

I think hand checking elimination and the rules changes about illegal defense had some impact, leading to the era of fast guards with less to worry about. But mostly it appears to be tied into the 3pt craze.

Lets compare 91, the year of Jordan's first ring, with this year.

FG 41.4 - 38.2
FGA 87.2 - 84.6
3P 2.3 - 8.5
3PA 7.1 - 24.1

FT 21.3 - 17.7
FTA 27.9 - 23.4
ORB 14.0 - 10.4
DRB 29.3 - 33.3
TRB 43.3 - 43.8
AST 24.7 - 22.3
STL 8.6 - 7.8
BLK 5.3 - 5.0
TOV 16.0 - 14.4
PF 23.2 - 20.3
PTS 106.3 - 102.7
FG% .474 - .452
3P% .320 - .354
FT% .765 - .757

Raining 3s is going to impact percentages and lower your ability for ORBs. It's also going to lower FTs and their impact.

Definitely, the focus on more 3-pt shooting is a major factor. Also, in the mid 1990's the 3-point line was shorter for a few years. There have been a lot of comparisons between the 1995-96 Bulls and this Warriors teams and the argument is almost aways framed in a negative fashion towards the Warriors. The game is far different today than it was in 1995.

No offense Berean, but the 95'-96' Bulls were never, never, never, ever, ever, ever, down by 40 points in a playoff game.

So the Warriors lost by 28 points. I researched the Bulls playoff record. They did have a blowout loss in the 1992 in the Eastern Conference Finals. :D The Bulls lost by 26 points, 107-81, at home against the Cavs. The Cavs led 40-14 early in the second quarter and never looked back. The Bulls trailed by 35 points at one point.

Maybe it is just a hangup with me, but when it's a freewheeling tempo, I feel like it's streetball...and nonchalant.
I remember back when the Knicks and Pistons were just hammering people though...led to my advancing the idea for a separate position, the power-goon. The goon would be allowed to just stand under the basket and whale away at people. No one would be permitted to pass the ball to the goon or even acknowledge him in any way, shape or form. No penalty would be assessed on any goon action short of the illegal if foreseeable use of a weapon, such as brass-knuckles or a war-hammer, which would result in a one point trip to the foul line by the player maimed and only by the player maimed.

I think it failed to find traction because the initials would be too easily confused with a point guard. :plain: Would have really developed the 3 pt game a lot earlier though, historically speaking.

I'd forgotten about the line.

Agreed. Also, the Bulls won that series. Okay, there's lots of daylight left, but neither of our squads are exactly setting our hearts afire at present, are they? My refuge is that while I'd like to see the cursed city of Cleveland get a ring, unless they're sending it to Boston there's only so much emotion I can muster on the point.

As much as I like Curry, James, and Durant, it is hard for me to picture them doing this.

I am basically speeehless. :noid:

The Warriors are about to join the 1906 Chicago Clubs, 1954 Cleveland Indians, 2001 Seattle Mariners, and 2007 New England Patriots in sports infamy...

Tough to see them managing three in a row. But you never know. Meanwhile, Cleveland better get back on the stick.
