For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (Eph 2:8 NKJ)
The Bible says, that salvation is "not of yourselves," Robert Pate says that God isn't responsible for your salvation, you are.
Who are you gonna believe?

The Bible teaches that salvation has been provided for everyone.
"That he by the grace of God might taste death for EVERYONE" Hebrews 2:9.
Now its your responsibilty to accept the salvation that God has provided for you in Jesus Christ.
