Of course, in the fifties, women were largely pigeonholed into domestic life, had a hard time working outside the home, had little to no independent access to credit, and so were dependent on husbands, who typically had the legal right to rape and dominate with no recourse for the woman to divorce or legal protection. Black people were systematically excluded from good schools, housing, and access to credit. If you were gay, trans, or anything other than heterosexual, you were often subject to harsh penalties. And many current family compositions were illegal. The culture for which you are nostalgic was maintained by force, and force would be required to bring it back. Sure, if it matched what you wanted, you could be very happy, but if you didn't happen to fit into that narrow avenue, you had few options and no recourse.
We won't be going back to that. Trump has been stirring the pot of deplorables, but it's a vanishing breed.
