How free should free speech be?

If the ungodly idiots outnumber us, we're where we find ourselves today. :chuckle:
It has nothing to do with "godliness". And everything to do with mutual respect. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that free speech comes with the responsibility to use it wisely (respectfully). That goes for any kind of social freedom.

People who seek to use their own freedom to deny the freedom of others, AS MANY RELIGIOUS CHRISTIANS SEEK TO DO, are abusing the freedoms of everyone, even their own.

They hold guns on you where you vote??? You should move.

If they'll let you. :noid:

we were talking about principles that we are willing to die for

they tell us how to vote

like

life, family, and religious freedom

we think they are important

Well, you put the die for them part in, or I missed someone else doing it. I suppose my problem with this sort of approach is that we live in a country where you're not going to die for anything on principle, chances are. You'll die of crime or disease, but not likely as a result of having a notion that is meaningful to you. Mostly because the notions that are worth dying for tend to be the ones we all have in common.

So, to make a card game analogy, when someone advances their beliefs with a "courage of conviction" card and we all know they aren't going to be called, the hand feels a bit unnecessary, like a way of inferring that others with different cards/opinions on this or that may lack that particular courage/ace.

Otherwise, what's the point in putting in the ante?

Their also disobeying the papacy, who teach's that religious freedom and the protecting of it, is the solemn and divine responsibility of civil government.

It is godly to support and recognize the religious freedom to not believe in God.

Anyone can express their views on how people should vote. Personally, I suggest voting for whoever seems to be the least influenced by their wealthy donors. You can vote on anything you want. You can suggest others vote on anything you want. We all can do that.

How is it illegal to incite people to march against gay marriage? Cite actual law, not your imagination, thanks.
In most municipalities, it is illegal to protest, and mass-march anywhere but in designated places, and with official permission. So that inciting spontaneous protest would almost always be inciting an illegal action.

Thank you, George Bush for "designated free speech areas." In other words, you have rights only where the government says you do. This should be overturned, and limits should only be in the interests of public safety or when such activity iimposes on the rights of others.
