America has 4% of the world's population and therefore should be expected to have only 1 ranked university in the top 25!

Instead, it has 13 of the world's top ranked universities - including 4 of the top 5!

The order may vary from year to year and depending on the criteria, but the names of the institutions in the top 25 remain relatively stable.

If the Democrats are responsible for the current state of higher education in America, as the OP asserts, then based on international comparisons it should be considered as a success story

that seems fallacious to me - why would you expect academic excellence to be tied to population?

I would think it would be more closely tied to GDP or average net wealth, considering how expensive a top ranked university is to run. Both of my parents and grandfathers were graduates of one of those listed, btw.

... If the Democrats are responsible for the current state of higher education in America, as the OP asserts ...

Given the marked discrepancy between MEAN and MEDIAN wealth for the United States, the later is the more accurate indicator of the distribution of private wealth given that it counters the influence of a disproportionate amount of private wealth controlled by the 1%!

1) The 11 countries with the greatest median wealth per adult account for only 3 of its top universities with none in the top 5!

2) The United Kingdom which ranks 12th in median wealth has 5 of the top 25 universities, including 4 in the top 10!

3) The Unites States that ranks that ranks 22nd in median wealth has 13 universities in the top 25, including 4 of the top 10!

The title of the thread "Here's one reason the Dems think they can succeed" attempts to hold the Democrats responsible for the current state of higher education - "ok dosier" is merely parroting the Trump game plan whereby one only takes responsibility for successes!

I've posted a few articles written by Walter E. Williams which he publishes on his mailing list, Something to Think About. This one is titled, Fraud in Higher Education. He makes a solid case with his argument that our educational system is a fraud on the American public. A very destructive fraud at that.
The OP bases his argument that "our educational system is a fraud on the American public" based on the article titled "Fraud in Higher Education!" where the author concludes that "the fact that unscrupulous parents paid millions for special favors to enroll their children pales in comparison to the poor educational outcomes, not to mention the gross indoctrination by young people by leftist professors."

The author also bemoans "grade inflation" in American education and then proceeds to contradict himself by citing that tin 1940 where 15% of all grades in the nation's top universities were A's had fallen to A-'s by 2018 as a decline in standards!
