I'm more worried about the chances of an extremely religious group gaining power in a country than any secular one.

Imagine a group that enforces Old Testament laws (some Cherry-picked ones) upon the people, with public executions for various offences. A bit like, say, Shi'ite Islamic Iran which uses Old Testament law to execute its convicts in the streets, crane hangings, that kind of thing. Or Sunni Saudi which beheads with the sword, etc But I wouldn't think that a Christian government of any kind would really do that, would it? ....... would it?

There aren't that many of those types. It used to be that the RCC wielded that power, but the reaction leaves that possibility, especially with fragmentation and disagreement with Rome, unlikely.

In truth, their supposed prolife stance is just a gimmick. TheY have absolute disdain for women, children and individuals of color.

In the last few days I have read a post on TOL which suggested that rape victims are not free of blame, or words to that effect.
You don't have to be a red hot feminist to understand that such a view is dangerously bigoted and gender prejudiced.
And the comments about blacks, together with dismissals about care for children after birth .......... that's it..... that tells me everything I need to know.

Now..... Russian and Chinese Communism ......... I live in the UK, and we don't have too many of those, but fortunately we don't have too many religious extremists either.
