Ashley Madison Data Dump Reveals Hundreds of Obama Admin Employees Had Accounts

Did they get hired to have an affair or view porn on the clock? Have they been instructed what their workplace email is for and what its not for?

Nothing says they were on the clock, or viewing porn. As for the use of the email, mostly they put their own privacy at risk, which isn't a firing offense, but it is stupid.

Given what the NSA's up to there's zero privacy anymore, period.

Well, perhaps, but at least the NSA isn't going to publicly post an email. For an email on a federal server, someone could submit a FOIA request, and be given a copy of any email by a separate employee without any notice or recourse, and those emails could be published on the Internet or in print anywhere, because those emails are presumed to be government property, not personal. So, it's a bad idea to use those email accounts for anything that you want to remain private.

And the security of the servers they are on, viruses etc..

I don't see any reason that having an Ashley Madison account would expose the user or the server to any greater risk of those things than anything else that the account might be used for.

Think that only harms the scumbag using the smut sites?

It's not as if giving out a government email address gives them access to the account or the server.

It was hacked shows it exposes lots of things, and a target for it by its very nature, and so are loads of porn sites and ill bet its users were very porn site heavy, and heavy viral loaded computers.

yes, using their site at work, exposes them to whatever junk is on their servers.

Major lack of security.

Ashley Madison got hacked. That doesn't give access to any of the email accounts that were used on the site, unless they happened to use the same password for their AM accounts. Which, generally, would be frowned upon, and a reasonable IT security policy would prevent from persisting for long.

As I pointed out before, having an account, even with a government email address, doesn't imply that they were using it at work.

IPs can check that, dates, times, etc.. anyone found having done such at work, should be fired, if they knew they were not to use their government issued email for other than what was agreed upon, they should be fired.

Maybe. Depends upon what information is retained and for how long, on both sides. And how much it's worth investing in it.

anyone found having done such at work, should be fired, if they knew they were not to use their government issued email for other than what was agreed upon, they should be fired.

Which brings us to the next problem, which is that it isn't clear that anything illegal or against policy was done. It's unwise from a personal privacy perspective, but I'm not sure you could lose your job over it.

On might lose one's marriage over it ....

By that logic then, federal employees should not be accessing federal servers while at work, since OPM was recently hacked.

and so are loads of porn sites and ill bet its users were very porn site heavy, and heavy viral loaded computers.

There ya' have it....we should fire these people because some anonymous fundamentalist Christian on a message board "bets" they were looking at porn.

Again it is not illegal or against policy to use work computers for private use.

Is there anybody here who can honestly say that they never do anything personal while at work? Phone calls? Check their Gmail? Watsapp? Text messages....?

Anybody?
