my position is really simple
I'll take more complicated but doable over simple and impossible any day of the week.
I vote republican because the democratic party supports abortion did you understand that part?
No, that's not your position. That's a bumper sticker. Your position is that you believe the way to undo what your party did is to put them in power again and to appoint the right sort of justices, who will find a way to reverse Roe.
And here's where that already monumentally uphill notion starts coming off the rails: you believe the only way to accomplish that is to ensure solidly right wing justices, which in turn means you must destroy the democratic party. So your solution is to address abortion by way of that aim.
My response is that you might as well set abortion in eternal stone then, because that's not going to happen. What could happen is a change on the position. The way I've always put it is this: it's easier to change someone's mind on an issue than on a host of issues and ideological leaning/political premise.
your position is not simple
It's not complicated. Let's see how you do anyway.
you have to go back over forty years when republican judges declared abortion legal
To understand that voting a party ticket isn't necessarily an answer and that a conservative appointed Court gave us Roe? Okay. That's true.
and you being a lawyer understand that it is now the law of the land and there is nothing you can do about it
I've actually never said that, have said something contrary to that, repeatedly, and you know it. I've told you precisely how Roe will and can be defeated. We'll change enough minds on the issue to push for and secure a Constitutional Amendment guaranteeing the unborn protected status and investing them with right.
but what you don't seem to understand is why democrats and their judges still think partial birth abortion should be legal
Because it isn't entirely true. There's even a pro-life wing within the democrats. You know that. And there are pro-choice republicans. And you know that too. The trick is to move the pro-life elements together and to continue to push the public sentiment and understanding toward reversing Roe.
The way to do that ISN'T by declaring war on many people who could be won to the cause because you hold their other notions in contempt, like unions.
