Bad idea. The people need to be armed similarly to the government. That is why the second amendment exists, so that we can rise up against our government should the need arise. HISTORY! History is important. Those who do not learn from it are doomed to repeat it.

hmmm so you would support the ownership of tanks, combat drones and nukes by private individuals by that logic?

The world has become a place where such weapons exists that individuals cannot be as well armed as states. The guarantees of our freedom need to be more subtle than they were at the in the later half of the 18th century.

According to Pat Robertson this tragedy happened because of disrespect for Trump and the anthem. :sigh:

On “The 700 Club” today, televangelist Pat Robertson linked last night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas to a disrespect for President Trump, the national anthem and God.

“Violence in the streets, ladies and gentlemen. Why is it happening?” he asked. “The fact that we have disrespect for authority; there is profound disrespect for our president, all across this nation they say terrible things about him. It’s in the news, it’s in other places. There is disrespect now for our national anthem, disrespect for our veterans, disrespect for the institutions of our government, disrespect for the court system. All the way up and down the line, disrespect.”

“Until there is biblical authority,” Robertson continued, “there has to be some controlling authority in our society and there is none. And when there is no vision of God, the people run amok … and we have taken from the American people the vision of God, the whole idea of reward and punishment, an ultimate judge of all our actions, we’ve taken that away. When there is no vision of God, the people run amok.”

“The fact that we have disrespect for authority;"

This nation has been that way since the beginning, so he is clueless.

It's actually legal for an American citizen to buy a tank or an old army jet plane just not the munitions without the same licence that you need to buy a full automatic gun.

Mitch "the Turtle" McConnell says that it's too early to talk about guns now...which is code for, "Let's wait it out, let it cool down, and let the NRA continue to run our show and stock our mini bars while we grind efforts aimed at making our constitutes safer into the ground."

What stumped him? Whether or not to consider making bump stocks illegal. Bump stocks, legal to sell and buy, are used to convert weapons to full automatic. He thought the Vegas shootings made that consideration inappropriate. You know, like when the Titanic sank and people argued considering safety measures for ships would be inappropriate considering... :plain:

What a piece of work is man...what a piece of something else is Congress.

Are there any actual official updates?
Most of what I have heard so far is that it is 'reported' that he might be ______ , but not yet confirmed.
They have not confirmed he is associated with ISIS.
They have not confirmed his beliefs.
They have not confirmed a motive.
They haven't even confirmed where he lived ('reported' he resided at an Retirement home, but again not confirmed).
etc.

While all these 'reported' things may turn out to be true, there is no confirmation of them yet, unless something was confirmed today that I have missed on the news.
He had a lot of money. He was rich.
And weren't fully automatic weapons banned for public sales back in 1986?
It's not like this guy just ran out and bought one at a public store.
Either this gunman;s weapon was purchased before 1986, or he modified another type weapon, or he found one on the black market, or the 'report' that it was a fully automatic weapon is just unconfirmed assumption.
He had a lot of money.

The NRA is probably still feeling optimistic, is my hunch.

:rotfl: What do want to happen, what's your idea of fixing the problem of evil psychopaths that perpetrate mass killings?

I don't think you can legislate sanity. But I'm for making it harder for psychopaths or any mentally ill person to possess a firearm or the means to dramatically increase the lethality of semi automatic weapons. Congress apparently isn't. And that's a betrayal of the public trust. Or, business as usual in D.C.

Why don't you complain about the causes for once.

What he's missing is that it's true of all societies, that as income rises, people have fewer children.

Yes, this is true.
It is very difficult to predict how that will work out for any particular group. It may depend on how well they fit in to the society they have joined- which is a problem is parts of Europe. And there is the question of immigration to Europe, which is difficult to predict.
