I don't think of lean being a by issue thing. I think of it as a philosophical bit. Because philosophically I think that we the people can accomplish more than we the loose collective of individuals eyeing one another warily. The only reason I chose slightly left is there was no centrist allowance, which remains one of Knight's biggest goofs. We can have (other) Christians but no moderates?

They compromised on a lot of issues. Slavery they simply gave in on. That's part of a larger compromise, but it isn't like, say, the anti abortionist and those who simply agree it shouldn't be used in lieu of birth control both agreeing on that point or on minimizing the number through education. At the heart not every issue leaves room for compromise but most do, in some form or fashion. Jefferson could have tied his agreement into a demand for more humane laws about treatment, separation of families (with an eye to a slave free future) but he didn't and a tragedy was compounded.

In fairness to the political tests on point, my left lean is pretty minuscule and disappears on a number of large issues, from abortion to gun control. It's more of a mistrust of conservatism to protect the weakest, least empowered (slavery being a prime example of that, holding true through the civil rights movement and beyond).

Didn't want you to miss it, so:
Neville Chamberlain compromised, and look how many lives were lost because of it.
Jefferson compromised and it gave us a nation to build and improve.
Or, it's all a matter of the sort and degree. There's a point past where compromise eradicates the point of a position and not every issue has room for it.

Well, I don't think we'll ever have a perfect system where everyone charged with a crime is actually guilty of it, so in that sense it's unrealistic to expect 100% accuracy. I think we should be convinced beyond any remotest shadow of doubt before we take someone's life for a crime however.

My mom had 3 poms. All of my dogs, until the most recent one, has been a mix that has included pom. Our dog now, is full blood. I too miss all my fur babies and friends who are now awaiting me at the rainbow bridge.

I have family who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Their opinions aren't positive. That's anecdotal I know, but I also know they're not alone. We can't export western democracy to a tribal society and expect it to work, and it isn't. We won the war but we lost the peace by not controlling the borders and allowing foreign insurgents to stream into and destabilize Iraq. Controlled air strikes in Afghanistan, no invasion of Iraq - that's what I'd say today, but I'm no expert, just dismayed at the human cost and the monetary cost - and all for nothing. Sacrifices made in vain for a President who wanted to finish what his father should have, who wanted to placate the hawks, who wanted a symbolic victory. It's so sad.

I was all for the war at the beginning, but I had little to no exposure to opposing points of view except a couple people in real life who didn't do a very good job of convincing me at the time. At that time I was a regular on a conservative forum and they were all for it, I was listening to talk radio that was all for it... it wasn't until about five years later when I started changing my mind. Now I'd be completely opposed.
