Entire Tenn. County Clerk’s Office Resigns Over Same-Sex Marriage Licenses
Clerk Gwen Pope and employees Sharon Bell and Mickey Butler all said their resignations was due to the Supreme Court’s decision to allow same-sex marriages.

It probably depends on TN law but will they be entitled to unemployment insurance? They quit, they were not laid off. They quit because they disagree with a legal decision. They are free to practice their religion anyway they wish but refusing to issue a marriage license, when the law says they should do so, is not exercising their religious rights, it is simply not doing their job.

Right, they shouldn't resign, they should just refuse, and then get fired and draw unemployment untill they win a class action lawsuit for religious discrimination for their firing over their religious beliefs.

Now that all the ' huff" is over, it appears everyone became complacent and returned to the pews unchallenged.

Then he should have retired a long time ago and let someone younger who really needs a job, have it (if he was such a pinnacle of morality).

Nah, or else we are left with immoral judges.
A magistrate isn't a judge. He's a judicial functionary. And he has to do what the laws of the land dictate. So 84 or 34 or Christian or hedonist, it makes no difference. He should have retired long ago and let some young guy with a family to support take the job.

It would have been the "moral" thing to do.

No, he isn't. He is an assistant to a judge:

"A lay judge is a person assisting a judge in a trial, and as such are sometimes called lay assessors. Lay judges are used in some civil law jurisdictions. Japan began implementing a new lay judge system in 2009."

A magistrate can be any or all of them. Do you know any? I do, and they are fully judges.
