That's a commentary on you, your moral perception, and nothing else. If you can't figure out the problem with monuments celebrating slavery's defenders, you are lost. There's a reason you don't see monuments to the gallantry and bravery of the Nazis in Germany. It's time the US did the same with our monuments to our own national disgrace.

Maybe some creativity would be called for.

In New Mexico, there was a statue of Juan de Oñate, a Spanish explorer, noted for an atrocity in which he cut the right feet off a number of rebellious indians.

One night, someone went out and cut the right foot off the statue.

Instead of removing the statues, maybe it would be easier and more effective to put up a plaque documenting the behavior of the person so represented.
