For the last few years, the Grammy Awards show producers have been putting on concerts honoring some special musician or group, after and separate from the Grammy Awards, themselves. The year before last they honored the Beatles. And this last year they honored Stevie Wonder.
I try not to miss these shows because they only air them once, and for some reason they don't allow them to be viewed online, or on DVD, later. And I also try not to miss them because I have found that when musicians/artists perform in honor of other musical artists, especially those they have long admired, they tend to really "step up" their performances. And I enjoy witnessing that higher level of creative and executive intensity.
This year's concert honoring Stevie Wonder was AMAZING! Every artist that performed did their absolute best, and at the end, Stevie Wonder was in top form, himself. He'd lost weight, his voice was back strong, clear and right on key, and his performance was excellent, too.
Unfortunately, only a couple of the show's performances have managed to stay posted on YouTube, but they give us a taste of just how great that concert/show really was. I'm not a big fan of pop music, necessarily, but Stevie Wonder's songs transcend the usual pop schlock to a level all their own.
Here is the opening of the show, with Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Gary Clark Jr. They set the bar very high right from the start, and everyone after them kept it up there.
Who knew Lady Gaga could really sing? :chuckle:
