No it wasnt... most Jim Crow laws required separation on the races... and it wasnt an option for a lot of private businesses.

Of course it was an option. There was no legislation require business to discriminate. No law saying that "white's only" signs had to be posted outside of stores. It was a choice of the business owner who was, as you said: privately owned businesses were just exercising its right to do business with whomever they want.

You seem to have forgotten your history.

It was not a choice... separate but equal was the law. And because of this, the private business owners had no choice, nor did the black community.

Jim Crow laws legalized segregation but did not compel businesses to be racially exclusive. That was the choice of the business owner.
