(CNN) - Americans are divided over whether President Barack Obama or his predecessor has performed better in the White House, according to a new national poll.

And a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday also indicates in the battle for Congress, Republicans hold large advantages over the Democrats among independents, men and blue-collar whites. The poll also indicates that Republicans are much more enthusiastic than Democrats to vote.

By 47 to 45 percent, Americans say Obama is a better president than George W. Bush. But that two point margin is down from a 23 point advantage one year ago.

"Democrats may want to think twice about bringing up former President George W. Bush's name while campaigning this year," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

True, but even with that there is a clear choice.

Fair enough. I'll vote Bush because he did nothing right. Both are equally bad at running the economy but Obama is actually a statesman who is respected by world leaders. Bush went to Iraq when we never should have. He started the bailouts but Obama took them too far.

If Bush is a zero, Obama is a 1.

It's true, Obama has not been the utter disaster that Bush was. But then he's just gotten started.

Give the man some time.

Dude... are you kidding??? America is the butt of jokes world wide.

Obama is the least prepared president of all time. I'm surprised he made it as a community organizer in Chicago.

What a question! One belongs in Chicago, the other, on the family ranch. George was not a bad governor; however, it is his nature to be an interventionist, just like his father and grandfather. Bush is a neoconservative, meaning not much of a conservative. He increased out dept, got us deeper into world affairs and the wars. Now here comes his opposite, where is the big change?

If liberals wanted liberalism, they should have nominated Hilary Clinton. The truth of the matter is most persons do not understand politics. The best solution now would be a Republican run on the Senate and House, this is why Bill Clinton went moderate. It is the best one can hope for at this time, a political stalemate.

Maybe the 72,000 dead people who received the stimulus were the same folks he was organizing back in Chicago.

Every one of them probably had validated DNC filled out ballots for Franken.

Obama is a failure of right and wrong, but not a failure at what he wants. He has done everything he wants, which is to destroy America as you know it. So as much as Bush could have done right, and failed, he is better.

Can anyone name a good move either has made?

Bush:
Increased aid to combat HIV in Africa. By reducing the number of people infected there, we can reduce the likelihood of a new and more virulent strain emerging.

Re-establishing more friendly relations with India. It's a huge and rapidly-modernizing democracy. Our natural allies.

Finally getting the backbone to overrule Dick Cheney and go with the advice of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Iraq.

Obama:
Health Care Reform

Re-establishing the credibility of the U.S. as a world leader.

Preventing the Bush Recession from developing into a complete collapse.

After that...

Not much.

Bush was worse. Bush was more aggressive in causing problems, and Obama is largely ineffectual. I'd take a benign president over a destructive one any day.
