A ball.

I could play with a ball all day long.
So many things to do with it.

Growing through childhood in the 1940s-1950s, there was not the proliferation of toys which we see today. My favorite "toy" was a microscope. I had such fun examining all the wrigglies from every pond and all the artwork seen in fly's wings and common dirt. To me, it was an adventure, an entertainment, and I never dreamed I was playing on the front porch of science.

...along with X-Wing Fighter, TIE Fighter (both regular and Darth Vaders), Land Speeder, Death Star, Mellinium Falcon, and various other items. All original 12 1978 figures and up stuff.

Oh how I wish I had all that stuff now $$$.

We also had this funny metal scooter like thing that you sat on, steered by pushing the front axle left or right with your feet and it was propelled by pumping a rod back and forth between the legs. It never had a brand name so never knew what to call it except the "yellow thing."

Me Mum's old scooter...it was red and yellow, curved platform [she was big girl..me Mum] it had a hooter which was operated by a rubber ball and it squeaked...

I got chased and bitten by a horse once for riding it too close to her :(
