Competition is all about winning honorably!

There's nothing dishonorable about losing, we've all been there.

It's called good sportsmanship whether winning or losing, that's why we line up both teams, shake hands and congratulate each member for their performance.

If we change things when a team is getting beaten what are we teaching them? It's Ok to whine and make excuses or change the rules when things aren't going our way? Look around we are seeing the effect of that attitude enough in this country now.

However, 107-2 seems to be over the top in my book. Couldn't the winning team play their lessor skilled players? And if they were already doing that, couldn't they have backed off just a little?

I wasn't there so I don't know the details all I know is that score seems a bit over the top.

Current IHSAA rules prohibit teams from forfeiting games and the IHSAA has no "mercy" rule on the books.

I know that you boxed as a child (snicker snicker), I actually played the game of basketball into college.

I know that your "Darwinian mentality" is "Kill! Kill! Kill!", but as a coach, as a player, or as a fan, I would be embarrassed to be involved in game like that.

Every minute they are out there playing will help make each one of them a better player and losing helps build character.

Yeah, except the OP is about basketball, not boxing. I already cited the relevant rules that actually apply to the OP.

The station said coach Larry Winters said all nine members of Bloomington South's team received playing time.

Playing to not lose leads to losing, including in life which sports are great lessons for. Never take your foot off the gas.

Let the winners win, let the losers learn.

That's just what the liberals want you to say so they can tax the 107 pointers.
They don't need all those points.
Just take some of those points and spread them around.
Give the other team some, hell, give everyone who showed up to watch the game some points.
Why should the people who made the points keep the points they made?

Not fair that they should have all those points when some people have none.

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

The height of human desire is what wins, whether it's on Normandy Beach or in Ohio Stadium.

There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you.

Without winners, there wouldn't even be any civilization.

Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world. Set a goal and don't quit until you attain it. When you do attain it, set another goal, and don't quit until you reach it. Never quit.


I want to make sure I don't interfere with the success of that team next year. I don't see any way I could go to practice like most of 'em do, and not hurt the team. I'd go nuts if I tried doing that.

If you're going through hell, keep going.

Good sportsmanship would be to encourage the team who's butt you're so horribly kicking to get it together and play better. Not mockingly or disrespectfully. Honestly encourage them to play harder and acknowledge, even praise them, when they do. And still kick their butts.

In select softball, when there are mismatches, we as coaches manage the situation and ask the baserunners to step off of the base early and deliberately get called out to end the inning. What is the equivalent to that in basketball?
